In January, trainers in Pokémon GO should receive Mega Energy for Mega Steelix alongside the Pokémon Onix during the research breakthrough. However, the plan has now changed – which is not so poorly received by the community.
This was the original plan: On December 22, the Pokémon GO team announced various events and that you would be able to catch the rock Pokémon Onix in the January research breakthrough – even in its shiny variant.
In addition to Onix, every breakthrough should also provide a certain amount of Mega Energy for Steelix, so you should end up with enough for a Mega Steelix evolution.
This is changing: As announced on Twitter, Niantic has encountered an unforeseen error. Consequently, it is not possible to obtain Steelix Mega Energy through research breakthroughs.
Instead of being a reward for the breakthrough, you will now receive Steelix Mega Energy through a limited research task. So: By completing certain tasks.
The research should be available between January 1 (10:00 PM) and February 1 (10:00 PM) and grant you a total of 200 Mega Energy. That’s enough for the Mega Evolution of Steelix.
The research breakthrough with Onix was not well received by many trainers when it was announced. Now one of the rewards for the breakthrough has also been shifted elsewhere – yet the community seems quite happy with the change.
