In Pokémon GO, there will be a change to the special candy sources. However, the announcement is not well received by some trainers.
Basically, you will still receive special candies from raids and from the PvP league – and now also from gifts from friends.
But as the official Niantic support account announced via Twitter, the chances of obtaining candies from these sources will be adjusted.
Trainers, we are adjusting the opportunities to obtain special candies in the game. The chances of receiving special candies in raids will be slightly reduced and slightly increased in the GO Battle League, and you can now also receive special candies in gifts. #PokémonGO

It is still unknown how significant the changes will be. However, it is clear that the Pokémon GO raids will likely yield fewer candies in the future, while matches in the PvP league will yield more candies.
Change in candy sources sparks discussion

This is what the community says: In the Pokémon GO subreddit, there is already discussion about the change. Most comments are critical. Many trainers apparently have no interest in competing in the PvP league and would prefer the focus on special candies to remain on raids:
- “Another way Niantic seems to be “punishing” certain players who don’t want to play a specific aspect of the game. Why not just leave the amount of special candies the same in raids, but increase or improve the rewards in PvP to motivate players, rather than punishing those who don’t want to play GBL?” commented one user: “And I say this as someone who plays a lot of GBL.”
- “They want to make people go outside by nerfing incense, and then players end up spending more time at home playing GBL. Logic,” criticized User “Kennyy_xd” (via reddit). Recently, Niantic made changes that were supposed to send players back outside – which also led to discussions.
- “That’s frustrating. I’m not interested in PvP because I have no interest in competitive play,” commented User LimboSkunk (via reddit): “There’s nothing Niantic can do to spark my interest in GBL because the nature of competitive play doesn’t interest me. On the other hand, I do many raids precisely because of the special candies. Why am I being punished for that?”
The PvP league has already been a frequent topic of criticism among many trainers, as errors can affect the gaming experience. However, there are also a few comments that view the change as not so bad:
- Unpopular opinion: This seems more friendly to F2P players who typically need special candies the most. Even though it’s time-consuming to obtain special candies through GBL, they at least have this opportunity,” writes User “Teban54” (via reddit): “We also don’t know if the special candies from gifts will be enough to compensate for the loss of special candies from daily raid passes, but it might happen, and I remain optimistic that it will.”
For now, it remains to be seen how significant the changes will actually be. Let’s hope they won’t be too negative – after all, the announcement also mentions “slight” adjustments.
