In this video, six Xatu battle a Machamp raid boss in Pokémon GO. Do the birds stand a chance against the muscle pack?
The raid battles are the cooperative gameplay part in Pokémon GO. In the raids, various opponents await, categorized into easy to hard difficulty levels. Level 1 easy raids can sometimes be completed alone. For tougher raids, several trainers with strong Pokémon as attackers are recommended.
A player has now attempted a battle against a level 3 raid alone. And as an attacker, he chose Xatu. A species that is not commonly known to trainers as a “super strong fighting machine”.
Xatu vs Machamp – Is this going to work?
A few weeks ago, a calculation appeared on Reddit explaining: So theoretically, it would be possible to complete a Machamp raid alone by using only Xatu as an attacker.
In the calculation, the user EdithKeelerMustDie explained that Xatu should ideally have a moveset of Air Slash and Future Sight. Additionally, the Machamp raid boss should have a moveset of Counter and Close Combat for the battle to go well for the Xatu within the time limit. The thread creator also showed an overview of levels and IVs for Xatu that can lead to victory:
If Machamp has a moveset of Counter and Close Combat, that would also be okay. However, according to Reddit, 6 instead of 4 Xatu as attackers are needed for that.
As a fighting Pokémon, Machamp is vulnerable to flying, psychic, and fairy-type attacks. Some of the strongest attackers include Alakazam or Espeon. Also, Exeggutor with psychic attacks makes for strong attackers.
Xatu is somewhat unusual as an attacker. While it also has flying and psychic attacks, stronger monsters are usually seen as attackers in gyms.
The thread on Reddit was actually meant more as a fun fact. With the motto “Did you know? In theory, this is even possible”. However, some trainers saw it not as a fun fact, but as a challenge.
The player DrAwesomeBlox took on this challenge and invested stardust that he had collected at the last Pokémon event. In total, he powered up his Xatu with 650,000 stardust to turn them into flying beasts full of energy. When he felt confident with his bird team, he started the battle against a Machamp. If you only want to see the end, skip to about 9 minutes in the video.
The joy after such a battle and successful catch is immense for DrAwesomeBlox, and we are happy for him. Does Xatu belong to your standard attackers as well?
An alleged Ho-Oh leak caused a stir among Pokémon GO fans. But it is all just nonsense
