What kind of event is this? The Bug Catching Event is a recurring event, which also took place in 2020. As the name suggests, the focus is primarily on Bug Pokémon. But your throwing skills will also be put to the test.

Bug Catching Event 2022 in August – Start, Content, Bonuses, Shinies
– New Pokémon: Mabula (+ Akkup, + Donarion), Mega-Scizor
– New Shiny: Shiny Toxiped
– Collector’s Challenge with 15,000 XP and a pose as a reward
– Group bonuses for more Bug spawns after raids
– Event bonus gives more XP for good, great, and excellent throws
– Genesect with Freeze Module confirmed for Tier 5 raids
– Additionally, altered Pokémon in the wild, raids, and as rewards from field research
– New Hyper Bonuses:
– Additional candies when you catch Pokémon with a good, great, or excellent throw
– Trainers above level 31 have a higher chance of XL candies for good, great, and excellent throws
– In raids, you will encounter Unown in the T-form. With luck, even as Shiny
– The regional Pokémon Vegimak will appear worldwide in the wild and in raids. With luck, you can catch it as Shiny
– During the event, there will be a timed research task where you need to catch Bug Pokémon. For this, you will receive items, Mega Energy for Scizor, and encounters with Pokémon
When does it start? The event starts on Wednesday, August 10, at 10:00 AM local time. It will be active until Tuesday, August 16, at 8:00 PM local time.
New Pokémon: Niantic announces that a Pokémon with two evolutions will debut. The new Pokémon are:
- Mabula
- Akkup
- Donarion
You can evolve Mabula into Akkup with 25 candies. To evolve Akkup into Donarion, you need to be near an active Magnet Lure Module and use 100 candies.
Additionally, the new Mega Pokémon Mega-Scizor will debut at the Bug Catching Event. With luck, you can even catch it as Shiny.
Data miners are already finding hints that Mega-Scizor could become part of Pokémon GO.
The Collector’s Challenge: This challenge revolves around catching Bug Pokémon. Those who successfully complete it will receive 15,000 XP and a Bug Collector pose. Those who do not finish the challenge in time can buy the pose later in the shop.
Group Bonuses: If three or more trainers are present and participate in a raid together, 15 more Bug Pokémon will appear within 300 meters of the gym for 15 minutes. Each event day will feature a different Pokémon appearing more frequently. Pokémon marked with a star (*) can be encountered as Shiny.

Event Bonuses: During the event, your throws will be particularly rewarded. You will receive double the amount of experience points for catches with good, great, or excellent throws.
