Team GO Rocket returns to Pokémon GO. When, how, and what will they bring? We summarize that here.
In the calendar of May events in Pokémon GO, there is an event that looks exciting with the debut of Gladimperio: the Crown Clash.
But now the event is getting even more exciting. Because halfway through, a GO Rocket takeover will also be added. This means: Team GO Rocket is bringing new Pokémon, the bosses will change their Pokémon, and you can also unlearn Frustration.
When does the Rocket takeover run? It starts on May 14, 2025, at 00:00. It ends on May 18 at 23:59. The takeover runs from Wednesday to Sunday.
What is the highlight? For many, it will probably be Crypto-Dialga! Giovanni has taken control of the time Pokémon. Your task is to defeat the boss and free Dialga. For this, you need a Super Rocket Radar.

What does the Rocket takeover bring to Pokémon GO in May 2025?
These bonuses apply: There are a whole series of things that the event brings. These include the following aspects:
- Team GO Rocket generally appears more often – in balloons and at stops.
- You can remove the move “Frustration” from Crypto monsters using Charged TMs. This way, they can reach their full potential.
- Pokémon from Crypto raids will receive stronger variations in attack, defense, and HP values. There might be hopes for better values for PvP here.
- The Rocket bosses will get new Pokémon. Which ones are still unknown – except for Dialga with Giovanni.
- Larvitar and Gladiantri will switch from 12 km to 10 km eggs. They can both be shiny.
- Field research will bring Instant TMs, Charged TMs, and Mysterious components.
- There will also be a paid, but optional limited research available in the shop.
New Crypto Pokémon: The grunts will also receive new Crypto Pokémon. The two fossil Pokémon are particularly exciting. The new monsters are:
- Crypto-Bummelz
- Crypto-Iscalar
- Crypto-Balgoras
- Crypto-Amarino
Crypto Raids: You can also encounter Crypto Pokémon in the raids. Caution is advised here, as they are not as easy to beat as normal raids. Of course, you can handle level 1 alone, but for Crypto raids of level 3, you will probably need support from at least one other person.
- Level 1 brings Crypto-Magnetilo, Crypto-Feurigel, Crypto-Kramurx, and Crypto-Spoink. Magnetilo and Kramurx can be shiny.
- Level 3 brings Crypto-Lapras, -Keifel, and -Strepoli. Here, Lapras can be shiny.
What makes Crypto Pokémon so strong? The special thing about them is that they have a significant attack bonus compared to the normal monster variants. The problem is the move “Frustration,” which you usually can only remove by purification – but then you also lose the attack bonus. Do you want to know more? Then check it out here: That’s why you shouldn’t purify your Crypto Pokémon.
