In Pokémon GO, Galar Mr. Mime and Galar Mr. Rime are getting ready for their appearance. A new Shiny will be released for this. However, the frosty Mr. Mime will only be available in a paid research at first.
What’s new? Niantic, the developers of Pokémon GO, announced new Pokémon on Friday evening, December 11th. To match the frosty season, some Ice-type Pokémon are preparing for their appearance. This will be celebrated with an event that is divided.
Every Trainer will receive part of the event. However, to unlock another part, you need to purchase a ticket.
The Cold Weekend in Pokémon GO
When does it start? This event begins next Friday, December 18th, at 10:00 AM local time. It will be active until Monday, December 21st at 8:00 PM local time.
What happens there? Even without purchasing a ticket, you will receive the following bonuses:
- New spawns with Incense: Pokémon like Rattata, Spheal, Spoink, Fleknoil, and Petznief will be attracted more frequently by Incense
- If you’re lucky, you might encounter Shiny Petznief
The Special Research with Galar Mr. Mime
What comes with the ticket: If you want, you can buy the special research ticket “What’s rattling there” in the Pokémon GO shop. The price is about 7.99 € (depending on the shop, it may vary by a few cents).
What’s included:
- You will receive special research tasks around Galar Mr. Mime, which appears for the first time in Pokémon GO
- Through the research, you will earn enough candies to evolve Galar Mr. Mime into Galar Mr. Rime
- A special event medal
- Encounters with Alolan Vulpix, Jigglypuff, Rattata, Flurmel, Palimpalim, Lapras, Petznief, and Schneppke
- New avatar pose
- Items: 3x Incense, 3 special candies, 30 Ultra Balls, 3 Premium Battle Passes, one Glacial Lure Module, three Super Incubators and three Star Pieces
What’s unclear: It is currently unknown when Galar Mr. Mime and its evolution will be catchable for Trainers who do not purchase a ticket.
Accordingly, there is criticism from Trainers regarding the event. On reddit, users write:
- “$8 paywall for Mr. Mime …”
- “This is ridiculous. Should we pay for every event now? […]
- “I would pay $1, but $8?”
Also on Twitter, Trainers are complaining under the official announcement:
- “We all had a pretty tough year. Do you have to make everything paid now? […]
- “You expect us to pay $8 for a Pokédex entry?”
Recently, Pokémon GO introduced the Kanto Tour, which will take place in February 2021. The ticket for the February event costs 13 €.
