In Pokémon GO the events for March 2021 have been announced. There will be new Spotlight Hours, raid bosses, and a research breakthrough.
This was revealed: A new season in Pokémon GO will start in March, and there will be plenty of events. Niantic has now given insight into upcoming events and shows that the next month will be full of happenings.
We present all the highlights and reveal which events are particularly exciting.
All raid bosses in March 2021
What happens in the raids: It was previously announced that Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus will celebrate their debut in their Therian form. Now it is clear: Before that, the Incarnate forms of the Pokémon will appear again.
Here you can see the times of the legendary raids:
- From March 1 to March 6, the Incarnate form of Landorus will appear in level 5 raids
- From March 6 to March 11, the Incarnate form of Tornadus will be available
- From March 11 to March 16, the Incarnate form of Thundurus will appear in level 5 raids
- From March 16 to March 30, the Therian form of Thundurus will appear in legendary raids
- From March 30 onwards, the Therian form of Tornadus will be available in level 5 raids for an undetermined period of time
Every Wednesday in the month there will also be a raid hour with the respective legendary Pokémon. On Monday, March 15, there will also be an additional raid hour.
Are there any Shinys? Yes, all Incarnate forms also appear as Shiny in the game. This is the first time that these Shiny forms appear in the game. The Therian forms will not be available as Shiny.
What happens in Mega raids: There will also be a rotation here. Starting on March 16, there will be a new Mega Pokémon in the raids. However, there is no information on this yet.
Bonus and Spotlight Hours in March
These are the Spotlight Hours: Also in March, there will be a Spotlight Hour every Tuesday. For one hour, a special Pokémon will be highlighted, which will then appear everywhere.
In March, there are the following hours:
- March 2, 2021: Krabby is in the spotlight, and there will be double candy for sending Pokémon
- March 9, 2021: Swablu will appear particularly often, and there will be double XP for evolving Pokémon
- March 16, 2021: Here, Voltorb will appear particularly often, and you will receive double stardust for catching Pokémon
- March 23, 2021: Geodude is the Pokémon of this Spotlight Hour, and you will get double XP for caught Pokémon
- March 30, 2021: Here, everything revolves around Shelmet, and you will get double candy for catching Pokémon
These are Bonus Hours: On 3 Thursdays in the month, there will be a Bonus Hour. There will then be a special bonus for one hour:
- March 4, 2021: Team GO Rocket balloons will appear more frequently in the game
- March 11, 2021: You will get more candies for caught Pokémon if they are the same type as your current Mega Evolution
- March 18, 2021: A raid hour with Mega Pokémon will appear more frequently for one hour
Research breakthrough in March 2021
What’s in the research breakthrough: This month you can look forward to, because Inkay will appear in the breakthrough. You will receive the research breakthrough when you complete field research for 7 days in a row.
This is particularly useful because Inkay is normally a very rare Pokémon, and so you are guaranteed to get it at least once a week and possibly even in its shiny form.
How long will the breakthrough last? You can catch Inkay in the breakthrough until April 1 at 10:00 PM German time. It starts here on March 1 at 10:00 PM.
Meanwhile, there have been some events, including the GO Fest, where Inkay appeared a little more frequently. Outside of events, however, the Pokémon remains very rare.
Especially the Shiny form is rare and sought after, as the hunt for Inkay is already difficult. Once you find one, you need luck for the shiny form. A luck that has probably been scarce for trainers so far.
Special research with Giovanni
What happens with Giovanni: The leader of Team Rocket returns to Pokémon GO, and you can defeat him again in special research. In March, the boss will be bringing a Shadow Articuno with him, which you can catch after the fight.
This special research starts on February 28 at 12:00 PM. After that, there will also be special research with Giovanni in the coming months. The plan looks as follows:
- March 2021: Here Giovanni battles with Shadow Articuno
- April 2021: Giovanni has Shadow Zapdos
- May 2021: Here you must face Giovanni with Shadow Moltres
What needs to be done in the special research? This is still not quite clear. However, in the past, research with Giovanni has all proceeded similarly.
You had to battle grunts and the bosses Cliff, Arlo, and Sierra. Only then did you unlock the Super Rocket Radar for the encounter with Giovanni.
These 5 events are waiting for you
A total of 5 more events have been announced for March 2021. Here is an overview.
On the hunt for legends: From March 9 to March 14, it will be about the search for legendary Pokémon. It will also revolve around the compass Pokémon Nosepass, which can also appear in its shiny form for the first time. So far, there is no further information.
New Smoke Day: On March 14, there will be a Smoke Day in Pokémon GO again. It will focus on Psychic and Steel-type Pokémon, with Drifloon being the highlight. Monsters of these types should be drawn to the event by the smoke.
Thunderbolt: From March 16 to March 22, Electric-type Pokémon will be in focus. This is supposed to be a brand new event, and the specific bonuses are still unknown.
Weather Week: From March 24 to March 29, everything will revolve around the weather in Pokémon GO. Especially Pokémon that have a connection to the weather should appear. A good example is Castform, which adjusts its form according to the weather.
Raid Weekend: On March 27 and March 28, there will be a special Raid Weekend in Pokémon GO. Legendary Pokémon should appear more frequently there. What exactly will await us there is still unknown.
