What’s happening in Pokémon GO? The Hoenn event is currently ongoing, which started on January 19, 2021. However, next week, the countdown to the Kanto Tour will begin. The journey towards Johto starts on Tuesday.
To make this event worthwhile for you trainers, Niantic is bringing some powerful moves that were originally available during Community Days. It will be possible for you to evolve Tyranitar with the move Catapult.
In this overview, we will show you all the known details about the upcoming event.
Contents of the Johto Event in January 2021
When does it start? The Johto event starts on Tuesday, January 26, 2021, at 10 AM local time. You will have a few days to take advantage of the event. Because on Sunday, January 31, 2021, at 8 PM, it will end.
What changes in the wild? As you might know, the starter Pokémon of the region will appear more frequently. However, they are not the only ones you will encounter outside. These Pokémon are confirmed:
- Chikorita, Cyndaquil, Totodile, Mareep, Hoppip, Pidgey, Sunflora, Yanma, Murkrow, Skorupi, Snubbull, Shuckle, Miltank
Which Shiny is coming? With luck, you may encounter shiny Miltank. The shiny version looks significantly different from the regular one.
Egg Changes: From the 5 km eggs you receive during the event, Pichu, Cleffa, Swablu, Glameow, Stray, Snorlax, and Larvitar will hatch.
Raids: The following Pokémon have already been confirmed to appear in raids during the Johto event:

Collecting: As you know from previous events of this kind, you should catch certain Pokémon for the collector challenge. If you succeed, you will receive as a reward 15 Poké Balls, 10 Ultra Balls, and one Incense.
Exclusive Moves: What makes the event even more appealing are the exclusive moves that Pokémon can learn. To do this, you need to evolve them during the event period.
- Evolve Bayleef so that Meganium learns the move Flora Statue
- Evolve Quilava so that Typhlosion learns the move Flame Cannon
- Evolve Flaaffy so that Ampharos learns the move Dragon Pulse
- Evolve Pupitar so that Tyranitar learns the move Catapult

These Legendaries are returning: Entei, Raikou, and Suicune will appear in 5-star raids, one after the other. Each of them will likely have its own raid hour.
- Entei arrives on January 26 (Tuesday) and will stay until January 31 (Sunday)
- Raikou arrives on January 31 (Sunday) and will stay until February 4 (Thursday)
- Suicune arrives on February 4 (Thursday) and will stay until February 9 (Tuesday)
