In Pokémon GO the event Dark Flames
will start next week, bringing you not only new monsters but also another special feature. For the first time, you can decide on part of the content yourself. We at MeinMMO will show you what to expect during the event.
Which event is it about? The last themed event of June will be the Dark Flames
event. This event will focus on Fire and Dark-type Pokémon. And for the first time at an event of this kind, you can choose which of the two types you prefer and attract them more frequently with the help of incense.
We have summarized below what spawns and bonuses you can also expect and which new Pokémon you can look forward to.
When does the event start? The Dark Flames
event will start on June 29, 2023, at 10:00 local time and will be active until July 2, 2023, at 20:00 local time.
Tortunator and Mega-Zobiris make their debut
During the Dark Flames
event, you can look forward to two new additions in Pokémon GO, both of which can also be caught as Shiny with some luck: Tortunator and Mega-Zobiris.
Tortunator: Tortunator is a Fire and Dragon-type Pokémon from the 7th generation of games, which has no pre-evolutions or evolutions. It resembles a gray-green turtle that walks on two legs. It carries a star-shaped, red-yellow shell on its back and on its head. Its back shell is also adorned with several spikes.
Additionally, it has a striking red tail. You can recognize the shiny form of Tortunator by its brown-yellow shell and a slightly greener body. Due to its distinctive appearance and its ability to trigger explosions, it is also referred to as the “Boom Frog Pokémon.” During the event, you can find Tortunator in Level 3 raids and field research.
Mega-Zobiris: This is the temporary evolution of the Dark and Ghost-type Pokémon Zobiris. Just like its normal form, it has a purple body but possesses pink crystal-shaped eyes and uses a pink gem as a shield.
The monster can be found in Mega Raids during the event. Afterwards, you can catch Zobiris. Also keep an eye out for its shiny form, which you can recognize by its yellow body. To obtain your own Mega-Zobiris, you need to collect Mega Energy in Mega Raids.
All spawns and raid bosses for the Dark Flames
event
In addition to the two new additions, there will be plenty of other Fire and Dark-type Pokémon during the event. We have summarized below what monsters you can find where and what it means for your desired type from the incense.
Pokémon that can also be found as Shiny with some luck are marked with an (*).
Special incense spawns: For the first time in this event format, you have the option to choose between the path of Fire and Dark. You do this through the associated timed research. Then, when you use an incense, monsters of that type will spawn more frequently.
Whether this is a selection of the wild event Pokémon or whether you will even receive special spawns is not known at this time and remains to be seen for now. Note that your daily adventure incense does not take this choice into account.
Additionally, your choice of path will also determine the tasks of the timed research and collector challenge.
Wild spawns: The wild spawns appear for all players outside of the incense. They are therefore independent of your choice of path in the timed research. These monsters are waiting for you:

- Hunduster*
- Fiffyen*
- Galar-Zigzachs*
- Kanivanha*
- Camaub*
- Skunkapuh
- Lichtel*
- Flamiau
- with some luck:
- Hundemon*
- Zobiris*
Pokémon in Raids: Since the raids are equally accessible to all players, they will not be influenced by your path choice either. The following raid bosses you can challenge:
- Level-1 Raids: Sniebel*, Flampion*, Zurrokex, Kapuno*
- Level-3 Raids: Alola-Knogga*, Flamara, Nachtara, Tortunator*
- Level-5 Raids: Heatran*, which can be caught with the charged attack

- Mega Raids: Mega-Zobiris*
What bonuses are there for the Dark Flames
event?
For the Dark Flames
event, you can look forward to some research and special bonuses again. The following await you:
- wins in raid battles grant 25% more XP
- 3 additional candies for won raids
- additional XL candy for won raids (from trainer level 31)
- Grunts from Team GO Rocket appear more frequently with Fire and Dark-type Pokémon
- Heatran learns the charged attack
