On Friday, November 5, 2021, the Festival of Lights will start in Pokémon GO. Besides numerous Pokémon and bonuses, Team GO Rocket will play a central role in this event. We at MeinMMO have looked into why this event is so important and will show it to you.
What kind of event is this? In a few days, the Festival of Lights will take place in Pokémon GO, focusing mainly on the debut of the Electric and Fairy-type Pokémon Dedenne. Of course, there will be more awesome Pokémon and special bonuses waiting for you during the event.
According to the motto “Where there is light, there is also shadow,” Team GO Rocket will be waiting for you starting November 9, 2021. You definitely should not miss this part of the event, as Team Rocket finally brings you the opportunity to forget Frustration after six months.
When does the event take place? The Festival of Lights starts on Friday, November 5, 2021, at 10:00 AM local time and runs until November 14, 2021, at 8:00 PM local time. You will then meet Team Rocket and its special features on November 9. However, it is still not exactly known how long you have the opportunity to battle them and take all the bonuses from Rocket Team.
In our first version of this article, we referred to an event from December of last year that offered you the opportunity to forget Frustration. However, the last such event was during the Yveltal event from May 18 – 24, 2021. We have adjusted our article accordingly.
What will Team Rocket bring you at the Festival of Lights?
As Niantic announced in the blog, there will again be two different sections during the Festival of Lights: “Festival of Light” and “With Light Comes Shadow” (via pokemongolive.com).
On November 9, 2021, and possibly beyond, you will encounter members of Team GO Rocket more frequently as part of “With Light Comes Shadow.” They will again occupy PokéStops and appear more often in balloons.
Furthermore, you have the opportunity to make your shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration during this event section. To do this, you only need to use a Charged TM.
Why are Team Rocket’s bonuses at the Festival of Lights so important?
If you’ve caught a shadow Pokémon after a successful Rocket battle, you will notice that it always has the Charged Attack “Frustration.” Unless you want to redeem the Pokémon, this attack will remain and cannot be changed easily.
However, this opportunity is now being offered again by the Festival of Lights after six months. Trainers had the chance to make their shadow Pokémon forget this attack with the help of a Charged TM in December 2020 and May 2021.
But what is the purpose? Of course, you have the option to redeem any shadow Pokémon. However, this does not make sense in every case. If it retains its shadow form, it has a 20% stronger attack power, which can give you a significant advantage especially in raids or gym battles.
However, most Pokémon have better Charged Attacks than Frustration. These attacks usually cannot be learned by shadow Pokémon. By using a Charged TM, you can now forget Frustration and teach the Pokémon a different Charged Attack. For example, you could teach your shadow Machamp the attack Counter instead of Frustration.
This is especially worthwhile for strong legendary Pokémon like Raikou, Entei, or Mewtwo, but also for the best attackers in Pokémon GO. But be careful: If you have made a shadow Pokémon forget the Charged Attack Frustration, it is better not to redeem it. Otherwise, it will learn the Charged Attack Return.
What Pokémon and bonuses does the Festival of Lights bring?
Aside from the more frequent encounters with Team GO Rocket and the chance to forget the Charged Attack Frustration, the Festival of Lights holds additional bonuses and cool Pokémon for you. The spotlight is on the Pokémon Dedenne.
The new Pokémon Dedenne
Dedenne is an Electric and Fairy-type Pokémon from Generation 6. It will make its debut in the game during the Festival of Lights. Visually, it resembles a yellow mouse. It does not have a pre-evolution or evolution. There will also initially be no shiny form of Dedenne in Pokémon GO.
Pokémon for the Festival of Lights
During the Festival of Lights, you will encounter many monsters, especially in the wild, in raids, and also in field research. In addition to Dedenne, there are other Electric and Fire-type Pokémon, such as Pikachu, Magnemite, Flampion, Electabuzz, or Magmar. With a bit of luck, you may also encounter some of them in their shiny form.
The bonuses for the Festival of Lights
In addition to the numerous Pokémon, you can expect the following bonuses during the Festival of Lights starting October 5:
