Recently, an event in Pokémon GO did not go as planned. The developers apologize for this and will bring a replacement event, but not for all trainers.
What event is this about? On April 16, a limited research event featuring Owei started in Pokémon GO. The egg Pokémon spawned significantly more often in the wild, and you could evolve it into Alolan Exeggutore during the event. Additionally, Alolan Exeggutore learned the powerful move Draco Meteor. To cap off the event, participants received double XP for catching Pokémon.
However, the event initially did not go as planned. The first players had trouble finding Shiny Owei. Niantic is now making it up to these players.
New Owei event for players in early time zones
What does Niantic say? On April 21, Niantic’s support reported on Twitter how the replacement event will look. They write:
Trainers, we will start a makeup event on April 30 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time as a Timed Research for the nine earliest time zones (GMT +14 – GMT +5), where the intended chances for encounters with Shiny Owei will be available.
During the makeup event, there will be a Timed Research rewarding you with 3 Owei encounters. Additionally, you can encounter Crypto-Owei in battles with Team GO Rocket.
More details will be available soon on our official channels. We apologize for the issues with the original event and thank you for your patience.

Which time zones does this apply to? If Niantic is very precise, Germany is not included. On Twitter, users showed on a map which areas could qualify for GMT +14 to GMT +5. The tweet indicates the areas inside the red line designated for the makeup event:
Germany would thus not be affected. However, there is hope that the affected areas will be expanded. Some people on Twitter say that Niantic should include more regions.
“After the early time zones reported that the Shiny chances were not increased, many trainers lost interest in the event and did not participate. Without knowing that the chances were then increased in their time zone,” writes Eheufaucan on Twitter.
Players on reddit also express that they wish for the makeup event to be worldwide. The reasoning is the same: They heard from early players that the Shiny chances were not increased and therefore skipped the event.
If so many players from the community are complaining, there is a chance that Niantic will indeed expand the event. But we can only say for sure once Niantic officially announces it.
