Pokémon GO receives two new forms for the legendary Pokémon Lugia and Ho-Oh with the GO Tour: Johto. They come in an Apex-Crypto form. Accordingly, the developers have also shared their abilities and strength. And both leave a good impression.
What kind of Pokémon are these? After a short teaser, many players have already speculated that Lugia and Ho-Oh would play a role in the GO Tour: Johto. Now we know that they will come to the game through a masterpiece research.
You will receive this masterpiece research when you purchase a ticket for the tour and complete the special research. You will then have a bit longer to unlock Lugia and Ho-Oh.
Apex-Crypto-Ho-Oh and Apex-Crypto-Lugia are said to radiate an aura like you have never seen in any other Pokémon before. It is also said to change when you free them from the Crypto debuff.
Here’s how strong the two new versions of Ho-Oh and Lugia are
How strong is Ho-Oh? The new Apex-Crypto version of Ho-Oh uses the ability Purification Fire+. This is a boosted version of Purification Fire.
- In trainer battles, it deals 130 damage
- In gym battles and raid battles, it deals 135 damage
Those who redeem Apex-Crypto-Ho-Oh gain access to the ability Purification Fire++:
- In trainer battles, it deals 130 damage
- In gym battles and raid battles, it even deals 155 damage
How strong is Lugia? The new Apex-Crypto version of Lugia uses the ability Air Slash+. This is a boosted version of Air Slash.
- In trainer battles, it deals 170 damage
- In gym battles and raid battles, it deals 200 damage
Those who redeem Apex-Crypto-Lugia gain access to the ability Air Slash++:
- In trainer battles, it deals 170 damage
- In gym battles and raid battles, it even deals 225 damage
How strong is it exactly? The damage in trainer battles is exactly what you are used to from the regular versions of Ho-Oh and Lugia. These Pokémon are therefore not stronger than their counterparts.
So if you’re active in PvP, you should keep both Pokémon in their Crypto version.
However, there is a power creep in PvE. There, they are among the strongest Pokémon in the entire game.
Players fear Pay2Win for PvE and are disappointed with the model
How do the Pokémon come? The majority of trainers who have expressed themselves on reddit so far are rather disillusioned by the changes. On one hand, many are disappointed that the Apex-Crypto-Pokémon still use the same models, just with a bit more shadow.
Some had hoped that the “Gale of Darkness” Lugia could come into the game.
On the other hand, there are trainers who are unhappy that the two Pokémon can only be obtained through a ticket for the GO Tour. The reddit user Optimus_Toaster even sees a kind of Pay2Win in this:
If these enhanced abilities only apply to players with a ticket, then that is a strong form of Pay2Win. It was probably inevitable after the Regigigas day, I suppose.
Others, however, see no problem in this aspect, that the boost only exists for PvE content. What do you think? And will you secure the two Pokémon?
