Some Pokémon in Pokémon GO can only evolve using certain items. The organization of these evolutions has now become simpler.
In Pokémon GO, there are now quite a lot of items that you can use to evolve certain Pokémon. These include, for example, the following:
- Sun Stone
- King’s Rock
- Metal Coat
- Dragon Scale
- Up-Grade
- Sinnoh Stone
- Unova Stone
- The Gearspect Coins
With the new apples for Knapfel, even more items will be added soon.
The annoying part: You could view or delete these items in your bag, but they were always grayed out. You couldn’t use them from there. Instead, evolution was only possible by selecting the respective Pokémon from the Pokémon collection and triggering the evolution in its menu. But that is changing now.
How the current update changes the evolution items in Pokémon GO
The new update for Pokémon GO includes an improvement of the evolution items. They are no longer grayed out in your bag, but are clickable now. It looks like this:

The best part: If you click on such an item, you will exclusively see a selection of Pokémon that can evolve with that item. So if you, for example, click on the Metal Coat, Pokémon like Onix or Scyther will appear in the selection. When you click on the King’s Rock, monsters like Psyduck and Quaputzi will be displayed – and so on.
This means: You can now easily display the monsters that can evolve with your items. This is especially useful if you might not even know which Pokémon need to use these items to evolve.
How do I get the update? The update is now available, but it is not automatically enforced. You can still download it by accessing your respective app store and manually clicking on the update there.
What’s next in Pokémon GO? April is already halfway through, but there are still plenty of dates to come. For example, you can catch the new Pokémon Forgita at the current event. But that’s not everything that April brings.
Among other things, the debut of the aforementioned Knapfel is also coming, which can evolve using special apples. In addition, we will also be battling Gigantamax Snorlax this month, there is another Community Day coming up, and Dynamax Entei wants to be challenged. Quite a lot is happening!
