It is getting hot around PvP in Pokémon GO. Niantic is currently rolling out an update that brings PvP battles.
In Pokémon GO, PvP is just around the corner. Niantic is currently rolling out a new update named 0.131.1, which Android users can already download via the APK file. In the App Store, Niantic mentions trainer battles as a new feature in this update. If every player has to make the update, trainer battles will likely be possible too.

PvP is coming
What does the new update bring? In some app stores, players can already download the new update. Niantic describes the following new features regarding the update:
- Trainers can now challenge someone nearby to trainer battles by scanning their battle code
- Trainers can send challenges for trainer battles to their best friends
- Trainers can also battle team leaders
- Trainer battles take place in three different leagues and consist of a team of three Pokémon. Each league has a different limit on the competition points of Pokémon
- New hair colors and skin tones are available for characters
There is also a new loading screen since summer. A Lucario is battling against an Elevoltek.
Are trainer battles coming now? It can be assumed that when this update is enforced, meaning mandatory for every player, trainer battles will also be available.
When will the update be enforced? It will take some time before the update is mandatory for everyone. Especially iOS users will have to be patient. Apple has certain rules regarding apps in their App Store. It always takes longer there than on Android for the update to appear. Once every player has the update in their store, it will also be enforced.
What is included in the update?
In the update, data miners from TheSilphRoad searched for further new features that Niantic has not announced. The following new features were found in the update:
- A spectator mode for trainer battles
- Players may be able to watch other trainers while they are battling.
- New medals
- These will relate to trainer battles and have already been confirmed by Niantic
- A rematch feature
- After a trainer battle, you may be able to directly challenge your opponent to a rematch
- When leveling up your Pokémon, you can now see how much CP the Pokémon will gain
- Sounds for the following attacks have been added: Skull Bash, Bloodsucker, Crabhammer, Octazooka, Power Gem, Crushing Claw, Absolution, Earth Powers, Mirror Salvo, Acid Spit, Grass Mixer, Spike Finale, Boost Hit
- The sounds are usually one of the last things Niantic adds before release. Therefore, it can be assumed that these attacks will be released soon.
Will these features also come with the update? So far, all of this has only been found in the datamine of the update. Not everything necessarily has to be released. It only makes it more likely that it will happen.
Can I get the update now? Android users can already download the update via the APK file. However, trainer battles cannot be conducted yet. This will be unlocked additionally by Niantic.
