In Pokémon GO, a very special event is set to take place in February 2022: The Johto Tour. Nothing is known about the event yet, but the community is already speculating on possible content on social media. We at MeinMMO will show you what trainers are hoping for.
What kind of event is it? As announced by Niantic on the Pokémon GO blog, there will be a Johto Tour at the end of February (via pokemongolive.com). This is supposed to be the spectacular conclusion to the current season – the Season of Heritage.
The PokeMiners, a group of data miners, have now found initial hints about this event, which they shared on Twitter. It appears that the texts regarding the start and end time have been embedded in the game code, along with a new image. This has sparked initial speculation in the community.
What is known about the Johto Tour 2022?
So far, Niantic has been very reserved with the official information regarding the Johto Tour. It is only known that it is set to take place on February 26 and 27, 2022, and is intended as the crowning finale of the season. Additionally, a paid event ticket will be required for participation, which, however, includes the limited-time research from January and February.
As indicated by the Twitter post from the PokeMiners, the information regarding the start and end of the Johto Tour as well as a corresponding image has now been embedded in the game code.
In another tweet, they also provided the corresponding texts found. According to them, the following text was embedded in the source code: “A ticket for access to the Pokémon GO Tour: Johto on February 26, 2022, from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM local time, no matter where you are.” (via twitter.com).
What the trainers hope for from the Johto Tour 2022
The information surrounding the Johto Tour is now sparking initial speculation within the community. Many trainers are expressing their wishes for the event on Twitter and Reddit.
Release of missing Shinies
One of the most mentioned wishes is the release of the missing Shinies from the Johto region. Some trainers are already looking forward to one or another specimen. For instance, Ace Br3ak writes on Twitter: “Finally shiny Mantine and Corasolla.” (via twitter.com).
The user standapokeman directly asks on Reddit which Shinies from Johto are still missing (via reddit.com). In the comments, the user is referred to another post that has already answered this question.
According to Revrush, the following Pokémon are still missing in the Johto region:
- Hoothoot and Noctowl,
- Budew, Roselia, and Cacturne
- Girafarig
- Slugma and Magcargo
- Rockruff and Hitmontop
- Phanpy and Donphan
- Remoraid and Octillery,
- Mantine
- the regional Pokémon Corasolla
Regional Pokémon
Corasolla: Apart from many trainers hoping for the shiny variant of Corasolla, this monster is a regional Pokémon. It is thus normally not obtainable in Germany. For this reason, some players wish to have the opportunity to catch Corasolla during the Johto event.
EasyHoney641 therefore asks on Reddit: “Is Corasolla coming for everyone?” (via reddit.com). Dracarys1988 is convinced that it will be catchable in raids (via reddit.com).
And on Twitter, graham also responds to a joyful post about Corasolla: “Yes, and I hope you save your [Raid] passes, because Niantic will most likely use them in raids since it’s regionally exclusive.” (via twitter.com).
Scizor: Another regional Pokémon is Scizor. This also belongs to the Johto region and can usually only be caught in Latin America. Also for this monster, some players hope to be able to catch it during the event (via twitter.com).
Other wishes and speculations for the Johto Tour
But the Shinies and regional Pokémon are not the only wishes of the trainers. amzorcen hopes for new Mega Evolutions and writes on Twitter: “Mega Johto Monsters?? God, I hope.” (via twitter.com). And reptilez speculates about a Mega Tyranitar (via twitter.com). GymDefender, on the other hand, hopes it will be Mega Scizor (via reddit.com).
GanzSicher speculates on special Unown that spell the word Johto: “We will probably get Unown for the letters J, O, T, and H. Only 2 new forms for me :/ (J and H)” (via twitter.com).
How realistic are the wishes and speculations?
In 2021, there was a similar event in Pokémon GO. This event focused on the Kanto region. With this event, the remaining Shinies from the region were also introduced, which you could encounter since then. This suggests that Niantic has planned a similar approach this year as well.
Regional Pokémon could also be found all over the world on the two event days, as Pokémon GO has made this possible in other events. However, these were mainly catchable in raids.
Whether Niantic will choose a special Johto Pokémon for the Mega Raid is still completely unclear. In order to equip all types with a Mega Evolution, a Rock-type Pokémon is still missing. This could suggest a Mega Tyranitar. However, there are still other options from different regions that Pokémon GO could turn to for a Mega Rock Pokémon, like Aerodactyl.
What the Johto Tour brings you in February in terms of spawns and bonuses remains to be seen for now. However, as soon as there is new information about this event, you will of course learn about it here at MeinMMO.
What do you hope for from the Johto Tour? Do you believe all the Shinies from this region will finally be released? Or do you have another hypothesis about what Niantic has planned for this event? Share your opinion with us here at MeinMMO in the comments and discuss it with other trainers.
