The mysterious Pokémon Genesect is back as a raid boss in Pokémon GO. MeinMMO reveals which counters you can use to defeat the bug Pokémon.
When does Genesect arrive? Starting from October 1, 2021, at 10:00 AM local time, you can defeat Genesect in its Aquamodule form in Level 5 raids. You have until October 12, 2021, at 10:00 AM to do so.
Best counters against Genesect at a glance
Which types should you take? Genesect is a Bug and Steel type. This makes it doubly vulnerable to all Fire attacks. All other types are either normal or even not effective. That’s why you should take advantage of this fire weakness and use appropriate attackers.
The best counters: Based on the overview from Pokebattler, we have summarized the 10 best monsters against Genesect with the corresponding attacks (via pokebattler.com). Make sure to bring the correct attacks, as the counters may otherwise be less effective.
| Pokémon | Attacks |
| (Shadow) Moltres | Fire Spin and Overheat |
| (Shadow) Entei | Fire Fang and Overheat |
| (Shadow) Charizard | Fire Spin and Blast Burn |
| Reshiram | Fire Fang and Overheat |
| (Shadow) Ho-Oh | Incinerate and Fire Storm |
| Blaziken | Fire Spin and Overheat |
| (Shadow) Magmortar | Fire Spin and Fire Punch |
| (Shadow) Arcanine | Fire Fang and Flamethrower |
| Flareon | Fire Fang and Overheat |
| Heatran | Fire Spin and Flamethrower |
These Mega Evolutions you can use: Of course, you can also use your Mega Evolutions against Genesect. It’s best to use the following counters:
- Mega Charizard Y with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Mega Charizard X with Fire Spin and Blast Burn
- Mega Houndoom with Fire Fang and Flamethrower
Which Pokémon can I still use? The top 10 strongest counters already correspond to the strongest fire attackers in Pokémon GO. Otherwise, make sure you have strong fire attacks in your team, and you shouldn’t have any problems against Genesect.
How many players do you need for Genesect? You need at least two players to take down Genesect. Your Pokémon should have reached at least level 25. Therefore, the duo is relatively easy.
If you don’t have ideal counters or haven’t reached a higher level yet, you should rather team up with three trainers. Alone, Genesect is not beatable.
Infos about Genesect – CP, Attacks and Usefulness
What is a Genesect with 100% IV? From the raid, Genesect can have a maximum of 1916 CP. If beneficial weather conditions like rain and snow are in effect, it can even go up to a maximum of 2395 CP for a 100% specimen.
Which attacks can Genesect learn? Genesect has five different moves available, two quick and three charge attacks:
- Quick Moves: Fury Cutter (Bug), Metal Claw (Steel)
- Charge Moves: Bug Buzz (Bug), Magnet Bomb (Steel), Sludge Bomb (Poison)
Is there a shiny Genesect? You can also find the normal form of Genesect as shiny in the game with a bit of luck. However, the Aquamodule is currently not available in its shiny form.
Is Genesect worth it? The mysterious Pokémon is one of the strongest bug attackers in the game and is worth it just for that. However, the bug type is not used that often, so the Pokémon may not come into play as often.
Moreover, there are different forms of Genesect. Currently, you can get it in the Aquamodule form. If you already have enough strong bug Pokémon, you should still secure a specimen for your Pokédex.
What do you think of the new raid boss Genesect? Will you participate in the raids, or is it not really your Pokémon? And which team do you use to defeat the mysterious monster? Feel free to share your opinion here on MeinMMO in the comments and discuss with other trainers.
