Disruptive PokéStops in Pokémon GO can now be removed upon request.
A few weeks ago, when the “Pokémon GO” hype broke out and attracted millions of players, there was not only support. Many public places became more or less “involuntary” parts of the Pokémon adventure. While many were happy to attract more visitors, others were unhappy about the sudden influx of so many new visitors.
PokéStops can be easily removed
We previously reported that Pokémon GO wants to show more respect for public places. Various locations had already voiced their dissatisfaction with the influx of trainers and therefore wanted to have the PokéStop or arena removed. For example, the Auschwitz memorial was one of the first places to ask the “Pokémon GO” developers for respect.
A statement from the Provo City Library in Utah shows that removing PokéStops is now quick and straightforward. The library made a request to remove the PokéStops because there were 4 stops in the library that led to unforeseen costs and problems for the library. The issues included not only complaints from regular library visitors but also: increased wear on the lawn, higher electricity consumption, and a marked increase in trash found on site. But those were just the smaller problems.
Other “behaviors” were less tolerable – This included people selling food and other items in the library. Additionally, the library’s electricity was charged by some trainers without the library’s consent, demanding a fee. Many players were also frustrated because cars were locked in the parking garage overnight. There were also complaints about alcohol consumption on the library grounds.
In the meantime, the stops have been removed. After all, a library should provide knowledge and information, not pocket monsters.
