Besides numerous Spotlight and Raid hours and two Community Days, you can particularly look forward to the “Astral Eclipse” event. Trainers suspect that this event entails the release of two legendary Pokémon.

When does the “Astral Eclipse” event take place? The “Astral Eclipse” event starts on November 23, 2022, at 10:00 AM local time and lasts until November 28, 2022, at 8:00 PM local time.

Which monsters do trainers suspect? Already before the start of the Season of Light, Pokémon GO trainers were hoping for the release of the legendary Pokémon Solgaleo and Lunala. These are the final evolutions of Cosmog and Cosmovum, which are already available in the game.
The two legendary monsters symbolize the celestial bodies sun and moon. Although Solgaleo initially resembles a large white lion, its orange-yellow mane is supposed to represent a sun.
Lunala looks more like a large bat. However, its blue to purple body reminds one of a starry sky and with its golden sickles that it carries at the ends of its wings, it eventually forms the outline of a moon.

What supports a debut of Solgaleo and Lunala?
The name of the event: A first hint towards a possible release concerning the two legendary Pokémon already comes from the event name “Astral Eclipse”. It suggests that the event could revolve around the universe, stars, and constellations.
At the start of the Season of Light, Niantic provided corresponding clues in the form of constellations. Moreover, players could catch a lot of Lunatone and Solrock after the grand finale of the GO Fest 2022, which were also meant to hint at the celestial bodies sun and moon.
Persistent hints about a possible release of Solgaleo and Lunala have also been found repeatedly in the game data by Pokéminers, a group of data miners. For example, at the start of September, they discovered initial graphics for Lunala.
The special research “A Cosmic Companion” continues
Cosmog & Cosmovum: Another possible reason for a Pokémon debut at this event is the special research “A Cosmic Companion”. This was released together with the new season on September 1, 2022, and initially brought you a Cosmog.
On October 5, 2022, the research eventually entered its second round and prompted you to evolve your Cosmog into Cosmovum. However, evolving into Solgaleo or Lunala is not yet possible.
However, evolving into Cosmovum caused a lot of uncertainties in the community. Many players did not want to part with their only specimen. To calm the players, Niantic announced through their blog that more Cosmog will be available in the near future. However, they did not specify a concrete date.
Start of Part 3 of the special research: On November 23, it may finally be time. On this day, not only does the “Astral Eclipse” event start, but also the final chapter of the special research will be unlocked. Since Cosmog and Cosmovum have already celebrated their release as part of the research, it would also be conceivable for Solgaleo and Lunala.
Moreover, Cosmovum can evolve either into Solgaleo or Lunala. Therefore, it also needs two specimens accordingly. For many trainers, it is clear that the time for more Cosmog has come and they will finally be able to evolve into Solgaleo and Lunala.
As g47onik writes on reddit: “They never said that. But since we have Cosmog and Cosmovum, Lunala and Solgaleo are obvious. Especially since we’re getting the “Astral Eclipse” event, which starts on the same day and unlocks the last part of the story.”
And BravoDelta23 would also be happy about the release of the two legendary monsters as part of the “Astral Eclipse” event (via reddit.com). He writes: “Astral Eclipse is probably Solgaleo/Lunala, which would be great.”
Further speculation on the release of Solgaleo and Lunala
While most are convinced that the long-awaited release of the two legendary monsters from Generation 7 is imminent during the “Astral Eclipse” event, reddit user kingstX2 suspects rather in connection with the new top raids.
As he writes (via reddit.com): “I assume the top raid will be our chance to get more Cosmog to obtain Lunala and Solgaleo.”
What are top raids? These are special raids that are a bit harder than the “normal” raids and can only be played on-site. You could participate in this for the first time on October 16, 2022, and secure an unbound Hoopa. This type of raid is also scheduled for November.
Is a release conceivable here? On November 13, it will be the next time and you can look forward to a new raid boss in the top raids. However, Niantic has not yet announced which one that will be.
However, this date does not fall within the “Astral Eclipse” event, but within the Rocket takeover that is set to take place in the preceding days. Therefore, it would be conceivable that the raid boss is rather oriented towards Team GO Rocket.

However, on November 27, 2022, another event day will take place, which falls into the Astral event and would fit better. However, nothing is known about this yet. It could potentially also be a special raid day.
