Soon, cumbersome portal submissions through the Ingress app will likely be coming to an end. Pokémon GO players will soon be able to do this through easier means.
It seems that the developers at Niantic are taking another step towards the community. After the introduction of new monsters and a dynamic weather system in Pokémon GO, soon submissions for stops and gyms should be possible.
This is revealed by a new job posting on Niantic’s career website.
Submit interesting locations to Niantic
In a job posting, Niantic is looking for a “Full Stack Web Engineer”. So, someone who is a jack-of-all-trades and has knowledge in many areas (CSS, Java, SQL, etc.). This developer should build apps that allow millions of users to view the most interesting places in the world or submit data about them.
Interestingly, the job posting hints at several “apps”. These apps may be game-related. For the Ingress app, there is already Operation Portal Recon. Other apps for submissions could then be used for Pokémon GO and Harry Potter: Wizards Unite.
Welcome improvement for Pokémon GO trainers
For many trainers, this change is particularly important. In Pokémon GO, players must visit stops or gyms to receive items or encounter many wild Pokémon.
In large cities or at sponsored locations, this is not a problem. There are several stops or gyms clustered together, and trainers can easily access them. However, players living in rural areas sometimes have to travel several kilometers just to find a single stop.
Until now, one could not directly suggest new PokéStops or gyms in Pokémon GO, but had to take a cumbersome route. It was necessary to create an Ingress account and grind it to a minimum level. Only then were you qualified to submit portals.
The portals were then reviewed by other players and, ideally, accepted. Ingress portals then become stops and gyms in Pokémon GO.
Thanks to a new web app, which is hopefully specifically designed for Pokémon GO, suggesting stops and gyms will be significantly easier in the future. We hope that the development proceeds quickly. Because these changes could finally make the Pokémon adventure more enjoyable for players in rural areas.
The dynamic weather in Pokémon GO allows for cool battles. Here, a Machoke is defeated by only two Pokémon.
