In Pokémon GO, the Environmental Week is taking place again this year, but it is already causing trouble among the trainers. We have compiled what content the event has in store for you and why players find it depressing here on MeinMMO.
Which event is it about? Every year, Pokémon GO holds an Environmental Week in the form of a themed event. There will be another one in 2024, as the developers announced on the evening of April 16, 2024 on their Pokémon GO blog.
Compared to previous years, the content of this year’s event looks rather limited, as trainers are waiting in vain for special wild spawns or new Pokémon. This is already causing quite a stir in the Reddit community. We’ll show you what spawns and bonuses the Environmental Week specifically has in store for you and what is frustrating the players.
When does the event run? The Environmental Week starts on April 22, 2024, at 10:00 AM local time and will be active until April 26, 2024, at 8:00 PM local time.
All spawns and bonuses for the Environmental Week at a glance
These Pokémon are waiting for you: During the Environmental Week, the contents of the 2-km eggs in Pokémon GO will be thematically adjusted. You can receive the following monsters from the eggs you get during this time:
- Wadribie*
- Rotomurf*
- Unratütox*
- Tarnpigion*
- Bithora*
With a bit of luck, you can also get these as Shiny (*). For this, Niantic has increased the Shiny chances for the Pokémon from 2-km eggs.
Are there more spawns? No, according to the current status, there will not be any special wild spawns. The raids will also remain unchanged.
What bonuses are there? During the Environmental Week, the bonuses mainly revolve around your buddy Pokémon. However, one or two quests will also be available. You can expect the following contents:
- more frequently received souvenirs and gifts from your buddy
- Buddy Pokémon will stay on the map longer after feeding
- half the walking distance to earn hearts with your buddy
- increased Shiny chance from 2-km eggs
- Event field research
- Encounter with Wadribie*, Rotomurf*, Unratütox*, Bithora*, and Tarnpignon*
- Collector challenge
- Reward: Stardust and XP
- Showcases with event Pokémon at selected PokéStops
Trainers are angry: What’s the point of playing outside then?
Trainers criticize the lack of spawns: In the Reddit community, the content of the planned event is not well received at all. The reason for that is the lack of wild spawns. Looking back at the Environmental Weeks of previous years, they have always been a fixed part.
Even new Pokémon were regularly introduced in this event format. But there is nothing to be seen of that this year. Many are particularly worried about the upcoming collector challenge.
If there are no wild event spawns, it can only mean, in their view, that you have to hatch the Pokémon to complete the quest. However, this has not worked particularly well in other events in the past and has led to considerable frustration among players. Thus, you can read the following comments on Reddit about the event:

Trainers hope for a Rediscover
event
Could there still be spawns? A spark of hope for event spawns still seems to exist, as Niantic announced a special Kanto milestone as part of their big update announcement for April 22.
The developers have planned several innovations regarding graphics, biomes, and the AR mode in the coming days. One of these points is that Kanto is to be rediscovered. Ever since the announcement of these innovations, trainers have been wondering if this could potentially signify another Kanto event.
Although nothing concrete has been confirmed by the developers yet, some trainers are now hoping for corresponding spawns related to the collector challenge. You can read the following on Reddit:

Probably because of the “Rediscover Kanto” spawns and the new way spawns are supposed to work in general (special biomes). Let’s see if it works. This event definitely looks meager at the moment.

For some reason, this and the Kanto event are taking place at the same time, meaning the Kanto event will have the spawns while this event has the research and eggs.

I can imagine that there are no spawns because the Kanto Pokémon biomes will be released on that day.
