In Pokémon GO you will be able to celebrate a Raid Day next week. Additionally, the Rocket Boss Giovanni will reappear. We will show you what you need to know.
When does the Kanto Raid Day start? This event runs on February 28th from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM local time. So you can keep next Sunday free.
During the event, the legendary birds of the 1st generation will appear everywhere for 3 hours. Additionally, Team Rocket has something planned because you will encounter Giovanni again.
Raid Day also brings a new chance for legendary Shadow Pokémon
These are the bonuses: The three-hour event offers more than just increased raids. We give you the overview:
- Articuno, Moltres, and Zapdos will appear in Level 5 raids
- There are up to 5 free Raid Passes
- A new special research involving Giovanni starts – At the end, you can catch a legendary Shadow Pokémon
- Rocket Grunts will appear more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons
- Within the 3 hours, you can use Charged TMs to remove the Charged Attack Frustration from any Shadow Pokémon
- From February 27th to March 1st, there will be a new box in the shop that includes 3 Remote Raid Passes
This is how a Raid Day runs: In the past, there was always a raid at each gym during the Raid Days for 3 hours. You could complete one raid at each gym within those 3 hours.
It is likely to proceed in the same way this time. The raid bosses will be active for 3 hours and will only disappear at the end of the event.
A year later, the same events featured Raikou, Suicune, and Entei. But not only legendary Pokémon have had such Raid Days. Pokémon like Gengar, Lapras, or the recent Alolan Marowak have also been the focus of such Raid Days.
What you need to know about Giovanni: The head of Team Rocket has been missing in the past weeks – assuming you have completed the last special research with him.
Now there will be a new special research task that you need to solve. At the end, there will be a Super Rocket Radar that will give you an encounter with Giovanni. He will battle with a new legendary Shadow Pokémon that you can ultimately catch.
Which Shadow Pokémon it will be is still completely unclear. So far, the Rocket Boss has had the following Shadows:
- Articuno
- Moltres
- Zapdos
- Mewtwo
- Suicune
- Entei
- Raikou
You should take advantage of this: Save your Charged TMs until the event, because there you can remove the Charged Attack Frustration from all Shadows. Normally, this attack cannot be unlearned, which makes many Shadows totally useless.
With new moves, Shadow Pokémon become really strong and can become some of the best attackers in the game. So you should use the Charged TMs.
What happens next? There are currently no official plans for March. Starting on March 1st, we will also experience a new season in the game, as the festive season only lasts until the end of February.
From March 1st, a lot could change in the game. The basic spawns that are also active outside of events will be different then. However, what the theme of the season will be is still completely open.
