Pokémon GO has surprisingly announced a mini-event for April 1st. It concerns “Tricky Pokémon” that will appear in the game for one day. We will show you all the contents of the event.
What kind of event is this? April 1st is coming up, and Pokémon GO celebrates this prank day every year. This year, some Pokémon will appear in the wild that love to cause mischief. Accordingly, Team GO Rocket will also get a bigger appearance – they have a Grimer problem that they need to solve, according to Niantic.

How long does the event last? It lasts exactly 24 hours. From 12:00 AM to 11:59 PM local time, the event takes place on April 1st.
These are the bonuses: Considering that the event runs only for a short time, a lot is happening. This includes:
- Pokémon like Grimer, Glameow, and Espurr will appear more frequently in the wild
- Team GO Rocket Grunts will only battle with Grimer on that day
- Team GO Rocket Grunts appear more frequently in Pokémon GO
- A Timed Research will run until April 8th and includes a Super Rocket Radar for Giovanni
- In the GO Battle League, the timer for switching Pokémon is halved – you can switch your monsters faster
- Surprises are waiting for you in snapshots
- Ditto appears more frequently in the wild and takes on the disguise of other Pokémon after the event
In 2020, Niantic introduced the then new Pokémon Flunschlik specifically for April 1st. Flunschlik was added to the game. In addition, Shiny Glameow was introduced for the first time. In 2019, Niantic changed the photo mode and guaranteed you a snapshot with a Hat Pikachu.
Are these useful spawns? Grimer and Glameow can both be encountered as Shiny. Shiny hunters may find this worthwhile. In recent years, Mimikyu appeared in the wild on April 1st as well. So this spawn could also be expected.
Are the Team GO Rocket Grunts worth it? For the Timed Research, you will certainly need to defeat Team GO Rocket Grunts again. It is convenient that the villains appear more frequently on April 1st. So you can quickly defeat the grunts on that day and possibly get the Super Rocket Radar.
Should you take advantage of the event? You should at least take a quick look in the app on April 1st. The spawns are quite interesting if you still need the Shinies. Additionally, the Timed Research can only be completed until April 8th. So it’s better to finish early rather than later and take advantage of the event on April 1st.
