What update is it about? Smaller updates and new features are released regularly in Pokémon GO. However, on the afternoon of April 11th, the developers announced major innovations for Pokémon GO with a short clip on their X account.
In the 15-second video, they show a trainer sitting in a café and discovering a wild Pidgey outside the window. In the next moment, you see a kind of portal, in front of which the trainer’s avatar stands together with various Pokémon.

What changes will there be? The clip itself does not reveal much about the upcoming update. Neither exact innovations nor the release date of the update have been announced so far.
For this reason, trainers are actively speculating on social networks about what might come. We have summarized their prevailing theories below.
Innovations in the AR mode
Many trainers suspect that the big update will relate to innovations in the AR function. The video with the Pidgey in front of the café could also hint at this. The current AR function actually caused significant problems in the game a few weeks ago and was eventually disabled. Currently, trainers can only use the AR+ mode.
However, this function is not very popular among many. An update could finally bring improvements. However, this also raises concerns among many players. They are afraid that they might be forced to always use this AR function through an update. One can read the following in the comments on Reddit:

New biomes: Another speculation among trainers is an update of the biomes. These are a type of terrain in which certain Pokémon spawn. This theory is primarily based on the current testing phase for the new backgrounds.
Niantic has divided the regions among selected players into different zones that show different backgrounds when catching. However, it cannot yet be said with certainty whether this new representation is related to the respective spawns at that location, although it is conceivable for many.
If this is the case, it could be possible to recognize in the future based on the background in which biome one is located and look out for suitable monsters that are particularly common in this terrain. The trainer Pokedaxi therefore writes on X: Finally give me the biome update!
Appearance of the avatar: An update for the avatar would also be a logical step. This could also be tested extensively by selected players in recent weeks and has led to much ridicule in the community.
