In Pokémon GO adjustments for XL Candies are coming soon. Niantic promised 3 new methods for how you will soon get the rare candies of the Pokémon.
What are XL Candies anyway? These candies are only available for trainers from level 40. You get them rarely when catching, transferring, or hatching Pokémon.
With XL Candies, you can level up Pokémon from level 40 and push them to the maximum level 50.
How you can soon collect XL Candies
XL Candies through trading: When you trade Pokémon, you will soon receive XL Candies. The candies are not guaranteed, but the likelihood increases the further apart the traded monsters were caught from each other.
XL Candies through buddy Pokémon: When you walk with a buddy Pokémon, you will receive a candy after a certain number of kilometers. In the future, there should also be a chance for XL Candies – however, there is no guarantee for that.
Guaranteed XL Candies: This introduction is particularly interesting. You should receive at least one XL Candy for every legendary, mythical, and evolved Pokémon.
This means that you need to catch a maximum of 296 legendary raid bosses to push this monster to the maximum level 50. That sounds like a lot, but in the past, it was sometimes over 1000 raid bosses that needed to be caught.
What does this mean for the game? Until now, XL Candies were particularly rare. Now you can specifically hunt for rarer Pokémon and grab XL Candies from them. This is especially true for legendary raids.
You should also keep Pokémon that you catch in distant locations. Trade them with friends who then have a better chance at XL Candies. In return, you can get their monsters from afar and collect XL Candies.
So keep all the rare Pokémon you catch and trade them with friends. Suitable ones include Kaumalat, Kapuno, Milza, or all legendary monsters. But also Larvitar, Tanhel, or Kindwurm have strong evolutions and appear rarely in the wild, making XL Candies particularly scarce here.
When will these adjustments be made? This is still not quite clear. So far, Niantic has not provided a specific time. However, it can be expected that the adjustments will be made in March, as they were announced along with the events in March.
