In Pokémon GO will soon have Alolan forms from the Kanto region available. Keep an eye on these, they could become important attackers.
A few days ago, Niantic announced that Alolan forms will be activated in Pokémon GO. These are unique variants of different species that you can then collect. But are they all equally good? Are there stronger ones to look out for, and weaker ones that can be ignored?
Alolan Pokémon as Attackers or Defenders? These are strong
With the new forms, players in the community have taken a closer look. Nick from the YouTube channel Trainer Tips and the experts from Gamepress explain which Alolan forms have the potential to become meta-relevant. They paid attention to the change in types and possible new moves.
New stats such as Max CP were calculated based on the typical Pokémon GO formula, which has also been used to integrate other monsters from the main games into the mobile game. This is an initial assessment of the Alolan forms that have a lot of potential in Pokémon GO.
Alolan Golem
Max CP? The Golem in its Alolan form will likely reach a maximum of 2916 CP in Pokémon GO.
Differences to the Kanto form: It differs from its Kanto form in its types. Instead of Rock and Ground, Alolan Golem is Rock and Electric type. This means it is no longer doubly weak to Grass or Water attacks.
What is it good for? It will be an even better counter against Ho-Oh because it is no longer completely destroyed by Solar Beam. It also has better chances against Ice type raid bosses. If it can learn Thunder Punch, it would likely be the best non-legendary Electric attacker. However, it is not as strong as Raikou or Zapdos.
Alolan Exeggutor
Max CP? In its Alolan form, Exeggutor will likely reach a maximum of 2881 CP in Pokémon GO.
Differences to the Kanto form: Its types change from Grass and Psychic to Grass and Dragon. Its stats change slightly with reduced attack and higher speed. This makes Alolan Exeggutor slightly weaker than its Kanto form. However, if it can learn new moves like Seed Bomb, it could become stronger. This could even make it a better attacker than Venusaur with Solar Beam in some situations.
What is it good for? If the Alolan form of Exeggutor can learn new moves, it would become more relevant in the meta. If not, it falls behind the Kanto form and Venusaur. As a Dragon attacker, Alolan Exeggutor cannot compete with the top tier.
But just because of its funny appearance with a huge neck, you should definitely keep an Alolan Exeggutor in your collection.
Alolan Ninetales
Max CP? Alolan Ninetales will likely reach a maximum of 2184 CP in Pokémon GO.
Differences to the Kanto form: Instead of Fire, Alolan Ninetales belongs to the types Ice and Fairy.
What is it good for? The Alolan form of Ninetales is only among the best attackers in very specific situations. The types Ice and Fairy are both very effective against Dragon. It would do well with two Ice moves as an attacker against Dragon Pokémon like Rayquaza, which are particularly weak to Ice and use Dragon moves themselves. Its resistance to Dragon moves makes it a good choice – The attack stats of Alolan Ninetales are not among the top tier.
Alolan Muk
Max CP? The Alolan form of Muk will likely reach a maximum of 2709 CP in Pokémon GO.
Differences to the Kanto form: Instead of just Poison, Alolan Muk belongs to the types Poison and Dark.
What is it good for? Due to its types and stats, Alolan Muk is less suitable as an attacker but rather as a gym defender. It is only weak against Ground type attackers, of which there are not many good ones in the current meta. The Alolan form makes it resistant to Psychic, Ghost, and Dark, but it has problems with fighting attackers like Machamp.
The unique colors make Alolan Muk a standout everywhere. It’s worth catching!
And what about the rest?
According to the analysis from Gamepress and the assessments from Trainer Tips, the other Pokémon are potentially less relevant in Pokémon GO. Unless Niantic fundamentally reworks the battle system, there is currently little use for these Alolan forms.
But they do look cool.
Keep in mind that it heavily depends on which moves the Alolan Pokémon can ultimately master in Pokémon GO. This will determine how effective they are as attackers for raids. As soon as there are any updates about this, the ranking with the best attackers could change again.
