What is a spotlight hour? A spotlight hour is a 60-minute event that takes place every Tuesday. During this time, you can expect at least one Pokémon that is in the spotlight and appears very often during the event. Each spotlight hour also has a bonus that is active during the event.

When do the spotlight hours take place? Each spotlight hour starts at 6:00 PM. It lasts exactly 60 minutes and ends at 7:00 PM. In the following table, you can see on which dates the spotlight hours take place and what to expect there.

Spotlight Hour on May 6, 2025
Which Pokémon is in the spotlight? In the first spotlight hour in May 2025, Coiffwaff awaits you. This Pokémon is from Generation 6 and is of Normal type. It does not have any evolutions, but it has different forms.
What bonus is active? If you catch Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of candy. The bonus is not limited to Coiffwaff, but applies to all Pokémon you catch.
If you have Pokémon rewards saved up, for example from field research, you can catch these Pokémon with extra candy. If you use Razz Berries, you can further increase the effect.
Is the event worth it? If you want to use Coiffwaff as an attacker, you will be quite disappointed. The Pokémon is not useful in raids or for battle leagues.
As a collector, the event could be worth it for you to gather candy if you plan to obtain all forms of Coiffwaff.
Can you catch Shiny Coiffwaff? Yes, with a bit of luck, you might encounter the shiny variant of Coiffwaff.
Spotlight Hour on May 13, 2025
Which Pokémon is in the spotlight? On May 13, 2025, Sankabuh will be featured in the spotlight hour. This Ground-Ghost Pokémon has existed since Generation 7 and can evolve into Colossand.
What bonus is active? In this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of candy when you send Pokémon to the professor. This can be beneficial if your Pokémon box is full and you need to make space again.
If you have the corresponding Pokémon marked in advance with a tag, sending them during the spotlight hour goes quite quickly and takes little time.
Is the event worth it? Unfortunately, Sankabuh and Colossand are not suitable for raids or battle leagues. You should rather skip these Pokémon. However, the bonus from the spotlight hour is interesting and can provide you with some extra candy.
Can you catch Shiny Sankabuh? Yes. You can also find Sankabuh as a shiny if you’re lucky.
Spotlight Hour on May 20, 2025
Which Pokémon is in the spotlight? Fiffyen is the Pokémon that awaits you in this spotlight hour. It is Dark type, comes from Generation 3, and can evolve into Magnayen.
What bonus is active? If you evolve Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of experience points.
Is the event worth it? You should probably leave Fiffyen and Magnayen in their Poké Balls instead of using them in the battle league or raids. Both Pokémon are simply too weak for that.
You can take advantage of the experience point bonus if you plan to evolve some Pokémon anyway. This way, you can grab some extra experience, which you can even increase with lucky eggs.
Can you catch Shiny Fiffyen? Yes. If you’re lucky, you can also encounter the shiny form of Fiffyen.
Spotlight Hour on May 27, 2025
Which Pokémon is in the spotlight? Golbit is the star of the last spotlight hour in May 2025. It is from Generation 5 and has the types Ground and Ghost. It also has an evolution, Golgantes.
What bonus is active? For each Pokémon you catch during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of Stardust. If you have Pokémon rewards from field research that normally yield more Stardust, you should catch them during the event.
If you use Star Pieces, you can further increase the bonus and receive up to triple the amount of Stardust.
Is the event worth it? Golgantes can be a useful addition to your team if you don’t already have stronger Pokémon. For raids, it still ranks on our list of best attackers in Pokémon GO of the Ground type.
It can also be used in the battle leagues, even though there are stronger Pokémon available there. It can place in the mid-range in both the Great League and the Ultra League.
Can you catch Shiny Golbit? Yes, you can also encounter a Shiny Golbit.
