What events are these? Every Tuesday, Pokémon GO starts a spotlight hour at 6:00 PM, which is active until 7:00 PM. A selected specimen is in focus and appears almost everywhere in the wild. Each date changes the Pokémon that is in the spotlight during the event and which bonus accompanies it.
The bonuses include more candies, more stardust or more experience points. In our overview, we show you all Pokémon and bonuses for the spotlight hours in May 2023.

Spotlight hour on May 2
Which Pokémon? During the first spotlight hour in May, you will encounter the Alolan form of Geodude. The original Geodude comes from the first generation of games. The Alolan region is part of the seventh generation of games. It belongs to the Ground and Rock types and can evolve into Alolan Graveler and Alolan Golem.
Which bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of experience points.
Who is it worth for? As fighters, Geodude and Graveler are not particularly interesting for you. The final evolution, Alolan Golem, is better. However, in raids, it only plays in the midfield of the best attackers and can only place itself in the upper midfield of the Super League in PvP. You’ll find better alternatives in Pokémon GO.
Can you catch shiny Alolan Geodude? Yes, the shiny form of the Pokémon is active in Pokémon GO and can be caught by you.
Spotlight hour on May 9
Which Pokémon? In the second spotlight hour in May, you can expect the Pokémon Ponyta from the first generation of games. It belongs to the Fire type and can evolve into Rapidash.
Which bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of candies.
Who is it worth for? Ponyta and Rapidash are not important attackers in either PvE or PvP that you should definitely have in your collection. Some trainers will use the hour to complete raids at that time and earn the double candies.
Can you catch shiny Ponyta? Yes, the shiny version of Ponyta is active in Pokémon GO and can be caught by you.
Spotlight hour on May 16
Which Pokémon? In the third spotlight hour in May, you can expect the Pokémon Oddish from the first generation of games. It belongs to the Grass and Poison types and can evolve into Gloom and Vileplume.
Which bonuses are active? For sending Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of candies.
Who is it worth for? Vileplume plays in the upper midfield of the Super League in PvP. Oddish and Gloom cannot keep up. Overall, the Pokémon family is rather weak in battles. However, you can use the hour well to clean up your Pokémon collection and earn a lot of candies for sending.
Can you catch shiny Oddish? Yes, the shiny version of Oddish is also available in Pokémon GO and can be caught by you.
Spotlight hour on May 23
Which Pokémon? The fourth spotlight hour in May brings you Pinsir from the fourth generation of games. It belongs to the Bug and Poison types and can evolve into Scyther.
Which bonuses are active? For evolving Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of experience points.
Who is it worth for? Scyther is in the upper midfield as an attacker in the Super League and Hyper League. In raid battles, it is not really useful. You can use the date to evolve Pokémon and earn extra experience points for it.
Can you catch shiny Pinsir? Yes, the shiny version of Pinsir is already active in Pokémon GO.
Spotlight hour on May 30
Which Pokémon? In the last spotlight hour in May, you will encounter the Pokémon Houndour, which comes from the second generation of games. It belongs to the Dark and Fire types and can evolve into Houndoom. It also has the Mega-Houndoom evolution.
Which bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of stardust.
Who is it worth for? Houndoom plays in raids in the upper midfield. Its Mega evolution is ranked in the A-tier of the best attackers in the game. So it can be very worthwhile for you to catch strong specimens of this Pokémon. You can also fill your stardust resources during the event at the same time.
