What kind of events are these? Every Tuesday there is a spotlight hour in Pokémon GO from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM. Before each new month, Niantic determines which Pokémon, along with which bonus, will be active on the respective Tuesdays.

Spotlight hour on July 4
Which Pokémon? In the first spotlight hour in July, you will encounter the Pokémon Geronimatz from the fifth generation. It can evolve into Washakwil. Both belong to the Normal and Flying types.
What bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of stardust.
Who is this worthwhile for? Neither Geronimatz nor Washakwil are particularly strong attackers. Washakwil can still reach the lower middle of the Super and Hyper leagues in PvP. But there are many stronger alternatives.
Therefore, the event is mainly worth it for the stardust bonus.
Can you catch shiny Geronimatz? Yes, the shiny form of Geronimatz is already available in Pokémon GO. With a bit of luck, you can find and catch it.
Spotlight hour on July 11
Which Pokémon? During the second spotlight hour in July, you will encounter the Pokémon Wailmer from the third generation. Its evolution is Wailord. Both belong to the Water type.
What bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of experience points.
Who is this worthwhile for? Neither Wailmer nor Wailord are strong attackers in Pokémon GO. You can ignore both for battles. However, Wailmer has a relatively large catch circle when capturing, making it easier to land great throws. Use the spotlight hour to farm a lot of XP.
Can you catch shiny Wailmer? Yes, the shiny version of Wailmer is already active in Pokémon GO and can be caught by you.
Spotlight hour on July 18
Which Pokémon? In the third spotlight hour in July, you will encounter the Pokémon Rihorn, which belongs to the first generation. It can evolve into Rizeros and Rihornior. All three belong to the Rock and Ground types.
What bonuses are active? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of candies.
Who is this worthwhile for? This spotlight hour is likely to become a must-attend event since Rihornior is a powerful Pokémon. As a Ground attacker, it is among the top with a combination of Mud Shot and Earthquake. With a combination of Rock Throw and Rock Wrecker, it is one of the strongest Rock attackers. Additionally, you will receive many candies for evolving and leveling up because of the bonus.
Can you catch shiny Rihorn? Yes, the shiny version of Rihorn is already available in Pokémon GO. With a bit of luck, you can catch it during the spotlight hour.
Spotlight hour on July 25
Which Pokémon? In the last spotlight hour in July 2023, you will encounter the Pokémon Mangunior. It comes from the seventh generation and can evolve into Manguspektor. Both belong to the Normal type.
What bonuses are active? For transferring Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of candies.
Who is this worthwhile for? Neither Mangunior nor Manguspektor are strong attackers. They are not important for your battles. Use the spotlight hour to clean up your collection and earn many candies for transferring.
Can you catch shiny Mangunior? Yes, the shiny form of Mangunior is already active in Pokémon GO and can be caught by you with a bit of luck. However, keep in mind that the shiny chances are not increased during spotlight hours.
