What kind of event is this? A spotlight hour is a small event that takes place every Tuesday. During these events, which last for 60 minutes, you can look forward to one or in some cases multiple Pokémon that are the focus and appear in large numbers in the game.
Additionally, each event has a bonus that is active during the time. This can be a bonus on experience points, stardust, or even candies.
All Spotlight Hours in January 2025
When do the spotlight hours take place? The small event takes place every week on Tuesday at 6:00 PM. It lasts exactly 60 minutes and ends precisely at 7:00 PM. In the table below, you will find out which content you can expect during the spotlight hours in January 2025.

Spotlight Hour on January 7, 2025
Which Pokémon is in focus? In the spotlight hour on January 7, you can expect Voltobal in its regular and Hisui form. While the Hisui form of Voltobal has the types Electric and Plant, the regular Voltobal is only of the Electric type.
What bonus is active? If you catch Pokémon during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of stardust for each catch. It doesn’t matter which Pokémon you catch – the bonus is active for every catch within the event.
Is the event worth it? Neither form of Voltobal or Lektrobal is particularly strong. You should not plan to use either Pokémon for participating in raids.
There are far better monsters available in the battle league that you should rely on. However, in some special cups, such as the color cup, Hisui-Lektrobal can perform quite well. If you participate in such cups, you should secure a strong specimen during the spotlight hour.
Can you catch Shiny-Voltobal? Yes. You can find Voltobal in both forms in the shiny variant if you are lucky.
Spotlight Hour on January 14, 2025
Which Pokémon is in focus? If you participate in the spotlight hour on January 14, you will meet Roselia here. The Pokémon with the types Plant and Poison comes from Generation 3 and has a pre-evolution with Budew. Additionally, Roselia can evolve into Roserade.
What bonus is active? For each Pokémon you catch during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of experience points. Again, it doesn’t matter which Pokémon you catch. Each monster provides you with double experience points.
Is the event worth it? Roserade, the evolution of Roselia, can be used as a Grass attacker. As such, the Pokémon can be found on the list of strongest attackers in Pokémon GO.
Unfortunately, these Pokémon are less suitable for use in the battle leagues. Here, you should rely on other monsters to defeat your opponents.
Can you catch Shiny-Roselia? Yes, you can also encounter the shiny variant of Roselia.
Spotlight Hour on January 21, 2025
Which Pokémon is in focus? On January 21, you can expect the Paldea form of Felino during the spotlight hour. This form of Felino has existed since Generation 9 and has the types Poison and Ground. It also has an evolution in Suelord.
What bonus is active? For catching Pokémon during the event, you will receive double the amount of candies for the respective monsters.
Is the event worth it? Paldea-Felino and Suelord are not Pokémon that are worth using in raids. Rely on other monsters for that.
In the battle league, it’s a different story. With Suelord, you get nothing less than the current best attacker for the Super League according to the ranking on pvpoke.com. If you play in this league, you can use the event to hunt for a strong Suelord for the Super League.
Can you catch Shiny-Paldea-Felino? Yes, you can also encounter the shiny variant of Paldea-Felino.
Spotlight Hour on January 28, 2025
Which Pokémon is in focus? Mangunior, the Normal Pokémon from Generation 7, is also featured in this spotlight hour. The Pokémon has an evolution in Manguspektor.
What bonus is active? If you send Pokémon to the professor during this spotlight hour, you will receive double the amount of candies for it. This can be particularly worthwhile if your Pokémon box is full and you have already tagged the corresponding Pokémon in advance.
Is the event worth it? Neither Mangunior nor its evolution are strong Pokémon. They are not particularly suitable for either raids or use in the battle leagues.
The most interesting aspect of this spotlight hour may be the bonus that you can optimally use to create some space in your box again.
Can you catch Shiny-Mangunior? Yes, this Pokémon can also appear as shiny, given a bit of luck.
