What are Spotlight Hours? Every Tuesday, a Niantic-selected Pokémon is in focus for an event lasting 60 minutes. During the event, you can find the Pokémon almost anywhere. The event runs from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Additionally, there is a special bonus for you that differs from event to event. This allows you to earn extra candy, Stardust, or XP. We will show you which Pokémon and bonuses are active during the Spotlight Hours in August 2022.

Spotlight Hour on August 2
Which Pokémon? The Hisui form of Voltorb is in focus. Voltorb originally comes from the first generation of games. The Hisui regional form has been available since Pokémon Legends: Arceus and transforms the Electric-type Pokémon into an Electric-Grass Pokémon.
What bonuses do you get? For catching Pokémon, you receive double the amount of Stardust.
Who is it worth for? Hisui Voltorb is not particularly strong. Neither in raids nor in PvP. Therefore, the event is mainly worthwhile for collecting a lot of Stardust.
Can you catch Shiny Hisui Voltorb? No. The shiny form of Hisui Voltorb cannot be caught during this Spotlight Hour.
Spotlight Hour on August 9
Which Pokémon? The female form of Nidoran from the first generation is in focus. It belongs to the Poison type and can evolve into Nidorina and Nidoqueen.
What bonuses do you get? For catching Pokémon, you will receive double the amount of experience points.
Who is it worth for? Nidoran (f) is not particularly interesting for PvP battles or raids. However, the final evolution, Nidoqueen, is different. This Pokémon plays in the upper mid-range in Trainer battles in the Great League and Ultra League.
Additionally, you have the chance to catch Shinies during the event.
Can you catch Shiny Nidoran (f)? Yes, you can catch the shiny form of female Nidoran in Pokémon GO.
Spotlight Hour on August 16
Which Pokémon? The Pokémon Wattzapf from the 5th generation is in the spotlight during the 3rd Spotlight Hour in August. It belongs to the Bug and Electric types and can evolve into Voltula.
What bonuses do you get? For catching Pokémon, you receive double the amount of candy.
Who is it worth for? Wattzapf’s evolution, Voltula, is a strong player in the Great League and Ultra League. It battles almost at the top of the attackers. If you play a lot of PvP in the leagues, you should secure strong specimens.
Can you catch Shiny Wattzapf? No, the shiny form of Wattzapf is not available.
Spotlight Hour on August 23
Which Pokémon? The male form of Nidoran from the first generation is in focus. It belongs to the Poison type and can evolve into Nidorino and Nidoking.
What bonuses do you get? For sending Pokémon, you receive double the amount of candy.
Who is it worth for? This Pokémon family is not particularly strong. Nidoking has fewer good applications than Nidoqueen and only plays in the lower mid-range in the Great and Ultra Leagues in PvP. As attackers for raids, these Pokémon are also not particularly useful. Use the event mainly to gain extra candy when you are cleaning up your collection.
Can you catch Shiny Nidoran (m)? Yes, the shiny form of male Nidoran is available in Pokémon GO.
Spotlight Hour on August 30
Which Pokémon? In the last Spotlight Hour in August 2022 at Pokémon GO, you will encounter the Pokémon Dusselgurr, which is from the fifth generation. It belongs to the Normal and Flying types and can evolve into Navitaub and Fasasnob.
What bonuses do you get? For evolving Pokémon, you receive double the amount of experience points.
Who is it worth for? Dusselgurr and its evolutions play only in the lower mid-range in PvP and raids. They are not really exciting as attackers. If you want to evolve some Pokémon from your collection anyway, the event is worthwhile to gain more experience points. Additionally, Shiny hunters may get lucky.
Can you catch Shiny Dusselgurr? Yes, you can catch shiny Dusselgurr in Pokémon GO.
