Team GO Rocket is now battling with new Crypto Pokémon in Pokémon GO. The bosses Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra are also affected. We show you the new Cryptos.
Update from January 24: This article was originally published on January 23 and has now been updated on January 24. The Rocket event has officially started in Pokémon GO. What was already shown on Sunday has now been implemented. So you have new Crypto Pokémon. These are:
- Crypto Voltobal
- Crypto Endivie
- Crypto Feurigel
- Crypto Karnimani
- Crypto Flurmel
- Crypto Hippopotas
- Crypto Teddiursa* (Cliff)
- Crypto Kindwurm* (Arlo)
- Crypto Quapsel* (Sierra)
Pokémon marked with an asterisk (*) can also be caught in their Shiny form. The new Crypto Pokémon had already been released by Niantic on January 23, a day early. They were available in the game for a few hours. Continuing with the original announcement from January 23.
What’s new? On the morning of January 23, 2022, screenshots from the Pokémon GO community began to flood in, showcasing new Crypto Pokémon. Crypto Pokémon can be caught after battling members of Team GO Rocket in the form of Grunts, bosses like Arlo, Cliff, and Sierra, or the leader Giovanni.
This may have been a mistake by the developers who released the new Cryptos too early in the game. Because for a short time, it was also possible to forget the charge attack Frustration. And that shouldn’t have been possible. In the meantime, the Crypto Pokémon of the Rocket members are reportedly “normal” again.
Which new Crypto Pokémon are coming?

The screenshots of encounters were shared by trainers between 5:20 AM and 8:00 AM on the morning of January 23. This also matches a finding from the data miners PokeMiners. They announced on Twitter at 5:27 AM that normal forms for Voltobal, Lektrobal, Endivie, Lorblatt, Meganie, Feurigel, Igelavar, Tornupto, Karnimani, Tyracroc, Impergator, Flurmel, Krakeelo, and Krawumms were added to the game. This is the basis for when adding Cryptos, regional, or redeemed forms of Pokémon (via Twitter.com).
Additionally, it was possible for about 30 minutes to forget the attack “Frustration” for Crypto Pokémon. Although this is actually only possible during special Rocket events.
Is it still working now? We tried it and fought against Arlo at 9:20 AM on January 23. With him, we could catch a Crypto-Skorgla as usual. It seems that the new Crypto Pokémon have been removed and Team GO Rocket is back to the usual Pokémon.
What’s behind it? On Monday, the second part of the Power Plant event in Pokémon GO starts. Along with it, there is also a Rocket event. So far, the following is known:
- Team GO Rocket appears more frequently at PokéStops and in balloons
- You can use Charged TMs to forget the charge attack Frustration for Crypto Pokémon
- Niantic also writes the typical phrase “It’s about to get even tougher…”
It’s quite possible that the new Crypto Pokémon will be available during the Rocket event, which trainers could already find for a short time. Perhaps they were simply released in the game too early and give us a glimpse of what you can experience in Pokémon GO starting January 24 at midnight.
