Overall, these events in January are good for collecting candies for these species. However, many trainers do not see them as mandatory events.
The Community Day is great for new players – for me, who has been around for a while, it’s rather “average”.
In general, the selection of events is not very surprising. It follows a typical pattern. New raid bosses arrive, the legendary ones come out on Wednesdays during raid hours. Once a month is the Community Day, and smaller events occur in between.
I simply miss new content. Overall, the events recommended here are mainly worthwhile for dust and candies. The hunt for special Pokémon is rather in the background this month. Because we already know all the legendary raid bosses, as well as the Pokémon for the Community Day and in the raid hours. A bit of excitement is still promised by the “surprise Pokémon” at the end of the month – let’s see what comes of it!

These Events are Worthwhile
In this big overview, you see that there are many dates for you this month. Below, we highlight which events are particularly interesting and why. Unfortunately, the selection is not very large. However, the ones we recommend are definitely worth it.
If you have any other events that shouldn’t be missed, please let us know here on MeinMMO in the comments and talk to us and other trainers about it.
Community Day featuring Machollo
When does it take place? On January 16 from 11 AM to 5 PM local time.

Why is this good? During the event, you will frequently encounter Machollo in the wild. There will also be special field researches that provide you with more candies and encounters. Everything, we know about the Community Day featuring Machollo.
It’s worthwhile for you because Machomei is among the strongest attackers of the Fighting type. Every collection should have a few Machomei with good CP and IV. At the event, you get the opportunity to expand your collection with strong Fighting-type attackers.
And for shiny collectors, there’s also the chance to catch shiny Machollo. However, this has been possible for a while in the game.
Additionally, there’s increased Stardust for catching Pokémon. So, if you already have enough Machollo and Shinys, you can at least refresh your Stardust supply.
The Community Day is especially worthwhile for new players and those who haven’t had much luck with Machollo yet. For trainers who have been around for a long time, this event is rather not worth it.
Spotlight Hours with Shinys, XP, and Candies
When does it take place?
- On January 12, Driftlon appears and brings double XP for catches as a bonus
- On January 19, Knilz appears and brings double candies for catches as a bonus
- On January 26, Phanpy appears and brings double candies for sending as a bonus

Why is this good? Admittedly, the selection of Pokémon for Spotlight Hours has been significantly better. Some players celebrate Driftlon as an attacker in PvP.
Knilz has some fans in the community. There is hope that Niantic will eventually bring back the move Strauchler for Knilz’s evolution Kapilz. Because then the Pokémon would be much stronger. It might be worth securing a few strong Knilz and candies.
During the Spotlight Hour with Phanpy, the candy bonus for sending is particularly interesting. Here, the candy supplies for Pokémon can be filled.
Trainers also hope that Niantic will release the shiny versions of Knilz and Phanpy. This would make these hours much more worthwhile.
Overall, these events in January are good for collecting candies for these species. However, many trainers do not see them as mandatory events.
