How do I get Crypto Pokémon? For that, you need to encounter a Rocket Grunt. They lurk at special PokéStops that look different in color.
After defeating the Grunts, you will receive some balls as a reward and can catch a Crypto Pokémon.
These 20 Crypto Pokémon are currently available
This is important regarding the list: Since the rollout on Tuesday evening, new Crypto Pokémon have been added repeatedly. Therefore, more monsters are likely to come in the near future.
Currently (as of July 26 at 4 PM), there are the following 20 Crypto Pokémon in the game:
- Bulbasaur, Ivysaur, Venusaur
- Charmander, Charmeleon, Charizard
- Squirtle, Wartortle, Blastoise
- Rattata, Raticate
- Zubat, Golbat, Crobat
- Snorlax
- Dratini, Dragonair, Dragonite
- Mudkip, Marshtomp, Swampert
Here’s how you can recognize the Pokémon beforehand: As soon as the Rocket Grunt addresses you, he also says a line that hints at the type he is fighting with.
For example, the Grunt might talk about deceptive water and logically uses Water Pokémon. “You can bet on Poison” teasingly hints at Poison Pokémon.
Here’s how you can easily defeat the Grunts: Some villains are indeed very hard to defeat. Especially those who fight with Snorlax or Dragonite. It’s important that you take the right types as counters.
So watch the said line and then assemble a battle team. We show you what helps against which type:
- Grunts with Grass Pokémon: Fire, Ice, and Flying type Pokémon. Psychic Pokémon are also good since all current Grass Pokémon are also Poison type
- Grunts with Water Pokémon: Electric and Grass type Pokémon. However, we recommend Grass Pokémon, as Marshtomp and Swampert are also Ground type and Electric is weak there
- Grunts with Fire Pokémon: Water, Ground, and Rock type Pokémon
- Grunts with Normal Pokémon: Fighting type Pokémon
- Grunts with Dragon Pokémon: Dragon, Fairy, and Ice type Pokémon. Rock Pokémon are good against Dragonite, but they have issues with Dratini.
- Grunts with Poison Pokémon: Psychic type Pokémon. Ground is also good against Poison, but the secondary types of the Poison Pokémon negate this weakness
The hardest combination is probably a team of two Snorlax and one Dragonite. For this, use two Fighting Pokémon like Machamp or Hariyama and finally a Dragon Pokémon like Dialga.
Dialga is the best choice as it is not very susceptible to Dragonite’s attacks.
Which Crypto Pokémon do you get then? Players report that you can get different Crypto Pokémon from the same stop. However, you will always receive a monster that the Rocket Grunt used to battle.
