In Pokémon GO you can currently give 5 Pokémon a Mega Evolution. You have to invest a lot to carry out such an evolution. Which monster is best suited for this?
These are the Mega Evolutions: Since last week you can use the Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO. To do this, you must first complete Mega Raids and collect the respective energies for it.
In total, there are 5 Mega Evolutions:
- Mega Charizard X
- Mega Charizard Y
- Mega Venusaur
- Mega Blastoise
- Mega Beedrill – Only through the Special Research “A Mega Discovery”
How strong are the Mega Evolutions really
We show this here: We show you here the respective stats of the Mega Pokémon and compare them with similar Pokémon of their types. Ultimately, we draw the conclusion whether the Mega Evolution is actually worth it.
Mega Charizard X at a glance
These are its stats:
- Attack value: 273
- Defense value: 213
- HP value: 186
- Max CP: 3850
This is how strong it is in comparison: In direct comparison to Mega Charizard Y, it performs significantly worse. Nevertheless, Mega Charizard X is one of the best Fire attackers in the game. Against raid bosses like Genesect or Venusaur, it is one of the best counters, and among the normal Fire attackers, there is no better Pokémon.
Is the evolution worth it? If given the choice, you should rather rely on Mega Charizard Y. The Y form is significantly better, but the X form is still not entirely bad.
However, the evolution is not unimaginably worthwhile. While it is better than other Fire attackers, it does not make a huge difference in battle. Therefore, you do not necessarily save a few trainers, but have to continue raiding with the same number.
Mega Charizard Y at a glance
These are its stats:
- Attack value: 319
- Defense value: 212
- HP value: 186
- Max CP: 4455
This is how strong it is in comparison: Among Fire attackers, there is nothing better than Mega Charizard Y. It dominates the leaderboard by a wide margin. The attack value of 319 is extremely high and no normal Pokémon can match it.
Is the evolution worth it: Of all the Mega Pokémon that are currently available, Mega Charizard Y is the best. You should always choose the Y form when given the choice.
However, you should also weigh this for yourself: Is it worth 4 Raid Passes to get a really strong Pokémon for 4 hours, or do I forgo it and prefer to fight the raid boss with one more player?
Mega Venusaur at a glance
These are its stats:
- Attack value: 241
- Defense value: 246
- HP value: 190
- Max CP: 3698
This is how strong it is in comparison: Among Grass attackers, there is definitely competition for Venusaur. A Roserade has a higher attack value, but gets defeated faster. A Tangrowth can take similar damage but deals less. Overall, Venusaur is the best here.
Grass Pokémon are often used when you can also use Electric or Water Pokémon. Zekrom is similarly strong as an Electric attacker – sometimes even a bit better. The Water attackers, however, outperform Venusaur.
Is the evolution worth it? Not really. If you are fighting against a Kyogre in a raid, Zekrom is the better choice and you don’t have to collect a bunch of Mega energies beforehand.
It is a strong alternative, and if you already have Mega energy and a raid boss is currently active against which Mega Venusaur is strong, then you can evolve it. However, it is not worth working towards that extra.
Mega Blastoise at a glance
These are its stats:
- Attack value: 264
- Defense value: 237
- HP value: 188
- Max CP: 3941
This is how strong it is in comparison: Among Water attackers, there are comparable candidates. Kyogre or Palkia have better attack values, but the Hydro Cannon move from Community Day makes Blastoise stronger.
The Water type is rarely effective on its own. Often, there are types, like now against Heatran, that are doubly effective. For example, Ground Pokémon perform better against Heatran or Rock Pokémon against Moltres.
Is the evolution worth it? Mega Blastoise is nice, but the effort for the evolution is not worth it. The difference to other Water attackers is too small, and often other types are simply better.
For the Mega Dex, you should secure a specimen, but afterwards you can safely leave it unevolved.
Mega Beedrill at a glance
These are its stats:
- Attack value: 303
- Defense value: 169
- HP value: 163
- Max CP: 3383
This is how strong it is in comparison: Among Bug attackers, Beedrill is absolute top. This is mainly due to the attack value of 303. However, it does not take much damage, which is why it is quickly defeated. Therefore, in many situations, Genesect is a better Bug attacker.
In general, the Bug type is used quite rarely. Beedrill is effective against Mewtwo, but the Dark and Ghost types are still significantly better.
Is the evolution worth it? To get Mega Beedrill, you only need to complete the special research for it. Currently, you can only get Mega Beedrill once.
You do not have to save the evolution for it. Mega Beedrill does not make a big difference in raids and does not necessarily have to be in your team.
