In Pokémon GO there is a first statement regarding the upcoming Mega Raid. Niantic has accidentally announced Mega Ampharos. We tell you what is known.
This was announced: In the Chinese blog post from Pokémon GO, Niantic dropped the bomb. They confirmed that Mega Ampharos will be in Mega Raids starting January 19. Resourceful trainers translated the message on reddit into English.
Other blog posts have not mentioned this so far, so it can be assumed that it was an oversight. Niantic did not intend to announce Ampharos as the next Mega Raid yet, but the Chinese translators were too quick and revealed it already.
Trainers had already suspected that Ampharos would be the next Mega Raid, as the English blog post already contained a small hint about the Pokémon. It stated “more detail will come to light.” Ampharos is known as the Light Pokémon, which would make this statement fitting.
Now we have the confirmation from the Chinese blog post and already know what we can look forward to this month.
All info on Mega Ampharos
How strong will Mega Ampharos be? First, let’s look at the stats of the Mega Pokémon:
- Attack value: 294
- Defense value: 203
- HP value: 207
- Maximum CP: 4799
The stats are extremely good again and comparable to other Mega Evolutions. Currently, there is no other Electric Pokémon that is as strong as Mega Ampharos.
However, one must consider that Mega Evolutions last only briefly and require a lot of Mega Energy beforehand. Each trainer must weigh whether they want to invest the energy and thus also a lot of effort beforehand.
What counters should one use? Effectively against Mega Ampharos are the types Fairy, Dragon, Ice, and Ground. This is because the Mega form of Ampharos still possesses the secondary type Dragon.
Strong counters are Pokémon like Garchomp, Zekrom, or Rayquaza. Especially the Dragon Pokémon are useful here. Without weather boost, you need at least 3 players to win the raid.
If you can’t do much with Mega Evolutions, you should secure XL Candy instead. We show you where to get a lot of these candies:
