In Pokémon GO the new season “Mystical Wishes” begins. It focuses entirely on the Hoenn region and brings new Mega Evolutions and Proto Forms.
When does the new season start? “Mystical Wishes” starts on December 1, 2022, which is already this Thursday. This was announced by the official Pokémon GO account on Twitter. It is expected to run until March 1, 2023.

This is what the trailer shows: We see plenty of Hoenn monsters and a sort of shooting star or comet flying through the sky, fitting the “wishes” theme.
Some exciting monsters can be seen. These include:
- Latias and Latios
- Rayquaza
- The new Mega Forms of the starters Swampert, Sceptile, and Blaziken
- Kyogre and Groudon – who are hinted at in their Proto Form at the very end.

Mega Raid Day with Mega Swampert, Sceptile, Blaziken
Start with Mega Raid Day: The season kicks off immediately with an exciting event. On Saturday, December 3, 2022, there will be a Mega Raid Day featuring Mega Sceptile, Mega Blaziken, and Mega Swampert.
All three forms are new and will likely be highly sought after as powerful attackers. You should mark December 3, 14:00 to 17:00 in your calendar. After that, you will only be able to obtain Mega Energy for the three when the Hoenn Tour starts.
The monsters will have strong Community Day charged attacks. Additionally, there is a ticket for around 5 euros that grants various bonuses. All info on Mega Raid Day in Pokémon GO is summarized here.
Pokémon GO Tour: Hoenn
What kind of event is this? There have already been two Pokémon GO Tour events: Kanto and Johto. Both essentially brought all the monsters of those regions, lots of shinies, mysterious Pokémon, and took place in spring.
The Hoenn Tour will follow in 2023. There is no exact date yet, nor have the contents been made known. A feature of Jirachi, known as the wish Pokémon, which would fit well alongside Mew and Celebi from the other two tours, is a possibility. Trainers are already looking forward to it after a data mining find.
Proto Evolution with Kyogre and Groudon
What is this? The two legendary Pokémon Kyogre and Groudon are already among the best attackers in Pokémon GO, but their ancient Proto Forms from the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire games are even stronger.
Both forms are briefly hinted at at the end of the trailer.
These glowing, larger forms are achieved in the main games through “Proto Evolution,” which requires certain gemstones.
How exactly the Proto Evolution will be implemented in Pokémon GO is currently still unknown – or when. However, given the trailer, it is likely to happen in this season. A release during the Hoenn Tour is also conceivable.
Bonuses for “Mystical Wishes”
What bonuses does the season bring? Players can look forward to several bonuses during the season. These include:
- More damage from your own Pokémon in remote raids
- 1 guaranteed XL Candy per trade, if you are at least level 31
- Note: In the German blog post about the season (via pokemongolive) it is mentioned that there is a guaranteed XL special candy, whereas the English version (via pokemongolive) only speaks of “1 XL Candy”. It’s possible that a translation error has occurred here.
- 1 extra candy per trade
- 40 gifts can be opened per day
- 125 gifts can be sent out per day
Additionally, from the season on, monsters in new sizes can be caught: XXS and XXL.
Furthermore, the following will apply permanently:
- Guaranteed gifts when spinning PokéStops
- Increased effectiveness of incense while walking
Raid bosses, spawns, and new shinies during “Mystical Wishes”
