In July, the big Pokémon GO Fest 2020 is happening. This time everything takes place from home. MyMMO author Noah Struthoff explains why this can even be better from home.
This is the GO Fest 2020: Normally, the GO Fest takes place every year at fixed locations. It was 2019 in Dortmund, among other places. However, due to the Corona crisis, Niantic moved this event to home for all players. This way, everyone can play in their own city and benefit from the bonuses.
Although the hustle and bustle around the event is missing, the GO Fest from home can be really good. I actually look forward even more to the GO Fest in my city than to the GO Fest last year in Dortmund.
5 Reasons Why the GO Fest 2020 Will Be Awesome
What could possibly be different? One thing is for sure: In terms of bonuses, it’s definitely not worse than the last GO Fests. The difference is that you simply can’t play with as many players, and there won’t be setups in your own city.
But these are just minor details for me, which I can easily overlook if I can play effectively from home.
The main ideas of the GO Fest remain the same. You’ll catch special Pokémon, collect many Shinies, and even complete a special research task about a mysterious Pokémon. All of this was confirmed to us by Niantic in an interview.
You play in a familiar environment: You can play in your own city all the time. There, you know the good spots and where many Pokémon can be found.
This is a huge advantage for me. I know exactly where I need to search and where I can also take a break. I know good places where I can take a break including lure modules.
All of these are major advantages for me, even advantages that I have over a GO Fest at a fixed location.
All friends can join: Sure, the GO Fest also costs money at home, but there are differences:
- The tickets are not limited – Every player who wants a ticket can get one
- The tickets are not tied to fixed days, but are valid for 2 days
So you can casually play with all trainers from the community. You don’t have to drive anywhere and can enjoy the time together.
I generally prefer to play with familiar people who follow my playstyle rather than with trainers who are completely unfamiliar to me.
It lasts for 2 days: While you could access the area in Dortmund for only one day, you can have fun here for 2 days. This also means that you can benefit from the bonuses for 2 days and really cash in.
I caught about 30 Shinies at the GO Fest 2019. If I can catch about double that this year on both days, that would be a real dream for me.
The only horror scenario: The pain in my legs after 20 hours of gameplay fun. But that’s something I’m willing to endure.
The previous announcements: There are many more small teasers showing possible spawns at the GO Fest. Pokémon like Kaumalat, Relaxo, and Vipitis are expected to spawn. Maybe Shiny Relaxo will finally come to the game? The pictures for the GO Fest already show really exciting Pokémon.
Additionally, there is the surprise that is expected on the 2nd day. I’m guessing the introduction of Mega Pokémon. After all, there was even a small hint of that on the new loading screen. It will definitely be exciting, and I’m already looking forward to the GO Fest.
I have already been able to play a Safari Zone from home. That was a lot of fun as well. If the GO Fest 2020 turns out to be just as good or even better, then it will be the best GO Fest of all time for me.
