In Pokémon GO the new season has started today and has directly kicked off with the event “Welcome to Alola!”. On this occasion, there are some new monsters from the 7th generation. We at MeinMMO show you which 5 Alola Pokémon you should catch now.
What kind of Pokémon are we talking about? The Pokémon live in different regions. One of these regions is Alola, which will be the focus during the Alola season. To kick off the new season, the event “Welcome to Alola!” started today, March 1, 2022, where the first monsters from this region celebrate their debut.
But which of these monsters should you catch? We from MeinMMO have explored this question and summarized below which Alola Pokémon you should not miss.
5 Pokémon you must catch
What new monsters are there? For the welcome event as well as for the Alola season, 22 Pokémon from the Alola region have been released in the game so far. You can find these in the wild, in raids, through eggs, or as rewards from research tasks.
The following Pokémon and their evolutions are currently available to you:
- Peppeck, Trompeck and Tukanon
- Bauz, Arboretoss and Silvarro
- Flamiau, Miezunder and Fuegro
- Robball, Marikeck and Primarene
- Miniras, Mediras and Grandiras
- Mangunior and Manguspektor
- Wuffels and Wolwerock (Day form and Night form)
- Curelei (only available in Hawaii)
- Kapu-Riki
However, not all of these specimens are particularly strong or available as Shiny. Below we have summarized the 5 most interesting Pokémon of the 7th generation that you should catch now:
1. Kapu-Riki
Especially interesting for many trainers is the legendary Pokémon Kapu-Riki. This Pokémon has been available in level 5 raids since March 1, 2022, and will defend as a raid boss until March 15, 2022, at 10:00 AM.
The Electric and Fairy-type Pokémon impresses mainly with strong attack power. Its defense and stamina are also decent. However, there are other Electric attackers in the game that are slightly stronger.
However, those who are active in the GO Battle League can use it in the Master League. With the moveset of Volt Switch, Thunderbolt, and Dazzling Gleam, it can score points there.
Kapu-Riki has a slim orange-yellow body and two bowls decorated with war paint on its arms, which it can open and close. Unfortunately, it is not yet available as Shiny in Pokémon GO.
Why you should secure it: Even though it is rather uninteresting for Shiny hunters and for use in raids, you should secure one or two specimens. This will definitely give you a new Pokédex entry.
Moreover, legendary Pokémon are always very limited in the game. So, when it will next be in raids is currently uncertain. We have compiled for you the 20 best counters against Kapu-Riki.
2. Miniras
Another monster you should not miss out on is Miniras. This monster is a small dragon that can evolve into the Dragon and Fighting-type Pokémon Grandiras through Mediras.
As you may already know from other dragon Pokémon, Miniras is also rare and can currently only be found in the wild or in 10 km eggs with some luck. However, especially PvP enthusiasts should hold onto this little monster as soon as they get it, because its final evolution Grandiras is a really strong contender in the GO Battle League.
No matter if Super, Hyper, or Master League – Grandiras is always among the top contenders with its moveset of Dragon Breath, Close Combat, and Dragon Claw. This is not least due to its strong defense. However, its attack is slightly weaker.
You can recognize Miniras by its gray-black dragon-like body and the yellow shield on its head. Unfortunately, it is currently not available in the game as Shiny.
3. Robball
The Water-type Pokémon Robball should also not be overlooked by you. It can evolve into Primarene through Marikeck. The seal-like Pokémon not only impresses with its cute appearance, but it can also score decent attack and defense values in its final evolution.
In addition, it can deal good damage with its moveset of Charm and Moonblast. Primarene, which is a Fairy and Water type, plays a particularly strong role in the Master League. Be sure to use the moveset of Charm, Moonblast, and Hydro Pump there.
You can recognize Robball by its blue body, light blue collar, and pink nose. During the welcome event, it spawns more frequently in the wild. You can also obtain it during the season through 5 km eggs. There is no Shiny available.
4. Wuffels
The Rock-type Pokémon Wuffels will also be available during the Alola season in 10 km eggs, but also in level 1 raids. This monster can evolve into Wolwerock. However, there are a few special aspects when evolving, as Wolwerock has multiple forms. Currently, the Day and Night forms are available in the game. This alone makes Wuffels something special.
Otherwise, Wolwerock (Day form) can score with a high attack, but its defense and stamina are rather poor, which is why it does not hold out long in battle. The Night form, on the other hand, has somewhat better stats in defense and stamina but slightly lower attack.
And also in the GO Battle League, the Rock-type Pokémon plays a lesser role. However, you should not overlook this monster. It is one of the few Alola Pokémon that can also be caught in its shiny form.
You can recognize regular Wuffels by its brown body, while the shiny variant shines in a baby blue.

5. Mangunior
Other Pokémon of the 7th generation are Mangunior and Manguspektor. These monsters are not particularly strong and therefore play no significant role in raids and PvP battles, but they can be obtained in their shiny form. This is especially worthwhile for the shiny hunters among you.
The otter-like Pokémon Mangunior and its evolution Manguspektor can be recognized by their brown bodies and the beige stripes that stretch from their heads over their backs to their tails and extend across their bellies. In the shiny version, this stripe is purple.
