What’s new: In Pokémon GO, the second event for the new Mega Evolutions has been running since Friday morning. The event brought new shinies, bug spawns in the wild, and further changes to the gameplay.
An important innovation is the reward of 4 Field Research tasks. Trainers compiled this overview and now shared with the community which quests will reward you with Mega Energies.

- Defeat a Team Rocket Grunt
- Reward: 10 Mega Energies for Beedrill
- Use a Mega Evolution on Beedrill
- Reward: 20 Mega Energies for Beedrill
- Battle against another Trainer
- Reward: 5 Mega Energies for Venusaur, Charizard, or Blastoise
Why are the energies important?
Problems with the Mega Evolutions: As soon as Niantic introduced Mega Evolutions in Pokémon GO, there was a lot of criticism. Developing required a lot of Mega Energies, which you first have to collect in Mega Raids.
Niantic then reacted and mentioned 5 things that will change with Mega Evolutions. Among them is the plan to distribute energies as quest rewards, just like it is now the case in the current event. This was a significant wish from the community.
The desire for Mega Energies to be available through activities other than raids was also a concern of the biggest YouTubers regarding Pokémon GO. This has been especially problematic for players in villages or without an active community. Because they rarely gathered enough players for the Mega Raids and had no chance there.
So it is now an important change that even Field Research tasks reward you with Mega Energies. Additionally, this aligns with the new limited special research in Pokémon GO. Because there you are supposed to perform a Mega Evolution. If you still lack energies for that, you can now collect them more easily.
