The Bug Catching Event is the next event in Pokémon GO. Especially for Shiny hunters, it’s worth taking a closer look here.
When does the Bug Catching Event start? The Bug Catching Event starts this Friday, June 26, 2020, at 08:00 and follows after a few days of event pause after the “Solstice“. The bug event runs until Wednesday, July 1 at 10 PM.
The Bug Catching Event focuses, as the name suggests, on Bug Pokémon. Why this insect event could be worth your while, you’ll find out here.
1. Many Shiny Checks
That’s why the event is worthwhile for Shiny hunters: Since mainly bugs will be crawling across your screens during the event, Shiny hunters should get their nets ready. Because: You can encounter numerous bugs in their shining form. These include, for example:
- Caterpie
- Pinsir
- Ralts
- Scyther
- Blittu
- And since the last Community Day also Hornliu
Additionally, you will also find Lithomith for the first time in its Shiny variant. This small, hermit crab-like Pokémon will appear more frequently in the wild, in raids, in eggs, and in quests during the event.
2. Targeted Bug Hunting
Complete your Bug Medal: If you are missing the Bug Medal in Pokémon GO, this event is perfect for you. You need to catch 200 Bug Pokémon for the gold variant.
Here it is worth using incense, as it attracts more bug monsters than usual during the event. Additionally, you can track specific Pokémon if you use the incense at the right time:
- From Friday, June 26 at 8 AM to Saturday, June 27 at 11:59 PM (local time) Nincada will appear more frequently in the incense
- From Sunday, June 28 at 12 PM to Monday, June 29 at 11:59 PM (local time) Wurmple will appear more frequently in the incense
- From Tuesday, June 30 at 12 PM to Wednesday, July 1 at 10:00 PM (local time) you will mainly find Scyther in the incense
Nincada does not usually appear often; it is one of the rarest shinies ever. You can evolve Scyther into Scizor, which has proven effective in Team Rocket battles.
Raid Day with Pinsir: If you’re missing the pincers monster, you can take advantage of the Raid Day with Pinsir. It takes place on June 28 from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and brings Pinsir to all gyms.

You can also catch it as a shiny there. Whether it will learn a special move is still unknown.
3. Important XP Bonus
This bonus brings the event: Even if you already know and have caught all bugs, you should catch as many Pokémon as possible. Because: During the event, you will receive double XP for every Pokémon caught.
This should be especially worthwhile for players who have not yet reached level 40. So fire up your incense and lucky eggs and catch everything that crawls in front of your net.
Slowly, the GO Fest 2020 is also looming. It takes place at the end of July, but will run differently than usual. We at MeinMMO spoke in our interview with the developers about the challenges of a digital GO Fest 2020.
