In Pokémon GO the first incense day is over. Trainers are pleased with the event, but 3 things some players would like to see adjusted.
This was the incense day: Last Sunday this event lasted for a whole 6 hours centered around the item incense. Each hour, a different type of Pokémon was attracted, and players could also continuously catch numerous Wiesor.
This was the first time Niantic organized such an event. It was primarily meant to help during the Corona crisis, as one could play seamlessly from home for the entire 6 hours.
Incense day was a success – adjustments would be important
This was praised: Overall, there were no really bad comments about the incense event. It was especially praised that it could be played completely from home. The last events were also easier to play from home, but those who went out had more advantages.
The incense, however, always attracted the same Pokémon. No matter if you were walking around or sitting on the sofa.
What should be improved? Diverse trainers discuss adjustments that would make the event even better. Three things stand out:
- It should be easier to get balls during the event, because those who played for 6 hours probably had rarely any balls left at the end.
- The event was a bit too long for many trainers. While they didn’t want to miss anything from the event, 6 hours dragged it out.
- During the individual hours, too many different Pokémon often appeared. Special monsters, on the other hand, rarely or not at all showed up.
This was said about the ball problem: The concerns about balls were the greatest. Niantic has already made some adjustments to address the problem, but especially for the event, that wasn’t enough.
One could catch a total of 360 Pokémon from the incense. Many of the Pokémon were quite jumpy, which caused some balls to miss. To play effectively, about 500 balls were needed, which is not so easy during these times.
The trainer “imabadastronaut” wishes on reddit: “With the community day next week, I really hope that our buddy soon brings us gifts from PokéStops. It would help a lot. I had to beg people on our Discord to send me gifts.”

This is how the length of the event was received: The incense day lasted for 6 hours. For many trainers, that was a bit too long. It was definitely not an event where one played Pokémon GO intensely for 6 hours, but rather the app ran in the background.
Trainer “theBobMM” notes on reddit : “It was definitely a ‘something to do on the side’ event. 6 hours is a long time to just sit there and check spawns.”
In contrast, one can see the community day. There, one typically plays effectively for 3 hours and can hardly do anything else on the side. During the incense day, a Pokémon appeared every minute, which was often rather uninteresting. Therefore, playing Pokémon GO effectively for 6 hours was not possible here.
This is what is said about the spawns: The diversity of Pokémon was also a point that was often mentioned. It was stated in the announcement text from Niantic that, for example, fire Pokémon like Hunduster, Fukano, or Lichtel would appear. However, the majority of spawns were Wiesor, followed by fire starters like Flemmli or Glumanda.
It is criticized that too many different Pokémon spawned during an hour. In contrast, the monsters one looked forward to during the hour appeared rather rarely. Especially the starter Pokémon were frequent, which did not receive much positive feedback.

I was looking forward to the plant hour, as Roselia, Myrapla, and Liliep were supposed to be frequent spawns, yet there were mostly spawns of Bisasam, Endivie, and Geckarbor, all of which already had a community day and are nest Pokémon. During the Psycho Spectacle, I had more fun using an incense.”
Here, changes could be crucial: Next Saturday, the community day with Abra will take place. You should be able to play it effectively from home as well. The item incense is set to be used again.
It will be interesting to see if Niantic makes any adjustments by then so that it will be easier to play from home.
