In Pokémon GO two major events are waiting for you in June. The developers have already revealed the dates and names, but not the content. We will tell you what could happen there.
These are the events: In June a lot is happening in Pokémon GO and Niantic has given the first insights into upcoming events. They announced the time frame and the names of the events:
- Solstice Event: From June 19 at 8:00 AM local time to June 24 at 10:00 PM local time.
- Bug Catching Contest: From June 26 at 8:00 AM local time to July 1 at 10:00 PM local time.
The bonuses from the events are not yet known. However, both events took place last year, so one can already gather the approximate bonuses.

What is the Solstice Event? This event is often used by Niantic to rotate regional Pokémon Sonnfel and Lunastein. It has been the case in 2017 and 2018.
It might be quite possible that we can find Sonnfel in Germany again during this event. This is particularly interesting as Sonnfel can already be shiny. Here we can secure a shiny that is very rare in Europe.
Otherwise, comparable events have always had different bonuses. So it can’t be said clearly what to expect during this period. However, a hint could be the Spotlight Hour during the event. Because on June 23 there will be a whole hour of Piepi everywhere.
Piepi is directly connected to the moon and in the anime, Piepi always appeared when the moon was shining brightly. So it might be likely that Piepi will also be part of the event.
What is the Bug Catching Contest? As the name suggests, bug Pokémon are the focus here. In 2019, this event brought shiny Scyther into the game and more bug Pokémon appeared everywhere.
Additionally, for the first time, the incense lasted a whole hour and attracted more Pokémon. Currently, the incense is just as strong thanks to the COVID-19 adjustments. So it might be possible that Niantic has come up with a different bonus here.
There are enough bug Pokémon that can be shiny. For example, Scyther, Pinsir, or Caterpie. But a new shiny is conceivable. A strong candidate for this is Zirpurze. After all, it has a special spotlight hour during this period and without the shiny form, this event would be pretty useless since Zirpurze is not useful otherwise.
Another interesting Pokémon for this event is Nincada. This monster is also of the bug type and can be shiny. It fits well into the event and you might have the chance to get one of the rarest shinies in the game.
