In Pokémon GO you can catch all sorts of different monsters. But have you ever looked at what the Pokédex says about the Pokémon you carry around without a care?
Every Pokémon that is caught in Pokémon GO is recorded in the Pokédex. There are a few interesting facts about the captured monster – for example, Pichu loves cheering on friends or Squirtle can swim very quickly.
But in the depths of the Pokédex lie some pretty bizarre and sometimes dark backstories. Here is a small excerpt of the craziest entries for you!
Nightmares and Horror Stories
Traumato: Niantic’s goal with Pokémon GO is to bring the world of Pokémon and real life closer together. Depending on how realistic all of this becomes: Can we just agree to leave Traumato out? The entry for this monster sounds incredibly unsettling:
If your nose itches while you sleep, it’s a sure sign that one of these Pokémon is sitting on your pillow, ready to devour your dream through your nostrils.

Laternecto: You found Traumato creepy? Then check out Laternecto – the ghost lamp seems to take on the role of death in the Pokémon world.
It appears at the moment of death and devours the soul of the deceased immediately after it leaves the body.

Driftlon: Oh, a cute balloon. Right? Wrong? Because Driftlon also sounds a little unsettling:
It was created from lost souls that have gathered together. It pulls children by the hand to befriend them.

Alpollo: Do you remember how you wandered through the Lavender Tower as a child and found it really creepy? Well – that feeling didn’t deceive you:
Alpollo is a dangerous Pokémon. If it lures you in while it floats through the darkness, you must not come too close. This Pokémon will try to lick you and steal your life.

Beware when you see these Pokémon
Ampharos: Yep, this category is actually called “Beware when you see them”. With Ampharos, however, it is quite likely that you will see it up close for only a very short time – and then probably nothing at all. Unless you have really good sunglasses on:
Ampharos emits so much light that it can even be seen from space. In ancient times, people used the light from this Pokémon to signal over long distances.

Unratütox: When taking out the garbage, it’s best to check carefully if an Unratütox might be hiding among the bags. If so, hold your nose, because apparently this monster stinks even worse than a rotting sewage plant in summer:

Tannza: Have you ever shaken a tree to knock down berries? If so, you probably have never had a Tannza fly at your feet – thank goodness. Because this beast apparently does not like being shaken from the tree:

Tropius: You know how it is. You eat your favorite fruit, enjoy the delicious taste and suddenly realize that a melon is growing out of your chin. Then children come and take the melon away. What, you don’t know that? Well, the regional Pokémon Tropius is familiar with it:
The fruits on Tropius’s neck are very popular with children. This Pokémon loves fruits and eats them constantly. Evidently, it has even grown fruits because of this preference.

Kindwurm: During Dragon Week there were many Kindwurm – and the little dragon is quite the dreamer. But the path upwards is arduous and hard – or rather, in this case, the path downwards. Thankfully, the dream is at least fulfilled in its later evolutions:
Kindwurm dreams of being able to fly. In countless failed attempts, it has thrown itself off cliffs. Therefore, its head has become very sturdy and as hard as steel.

Xatu: Unlike Kindwurm, Xatu can fly. But it does not help because Xatu has seen things. Apparently, really, really terrible things:

Spoink: Spoink looks like it bounces around cheerfully all day. And it does. It just can’t stop – how does one sleep with that?

Moderate to Severe Catastrophes
Despotar: It’s better not to build your house on a mountain if you live in the Pokémon world. Because if top attacker Despotar chooses the spot as a place to live, you can forget the situation:
Despotar is remarkably strong. It can destroy an entire mountain to build its nest. This Pokémon wanders around in the mountains looking for opponents to battle.

Reshiram: I’m not sure if it’s a good idea to mention the powerful Reshiram in a discussion about climate change as a compelling argument. But the Pokédex says what the Pokédex says:

Absol: We would have liked to end this list with a nice entry, but somehow this whole Pokémon world is pretty dark. Absol raids shouldn’t be recommended anytime soon:
