With “Pokémon Unite,” a new free Pokémon game has been showcased. It offers a completely new way to engage in Pokémon battles for the series.
This is Pokémon Unite: In Pokémon Unite, you do not walk through the real world like in Pokémon GO to catch monsters, nor do you try to complete the Pokédex like in Sword & Shield.
Instead, Unite takes a typical MOBA approach: here you let your Pokémon compete in strategic 5-on-5 arena battles. The whole experience is multiplayer. This means that if you have always wanted to challenge other Pokémon fans as a trainer team with your friends, then this is the right place for you.
Team Battles Instead of Raids and Combat League
This is how battles work in Pokémon Unite: At the beginning of each battle, each player selects the Pokémon they want to send into battle. Each has its own strengths, weaknesses, and attacks.
Once in the split arena, you compete with the opposing team for points, among other things by catching wild Pokémon.
Unusually, your monsters start at level 1 at the beginning of the battle, leveling up during the battle and triggering evolutions. They also learn new attacks, including the “Unite Moves,” which represent a strong, unique special attack.
Players can specialize in ranged or melee attacks if desired, allowing them to set up their team broadly. Team play and tactics are intended to play an important role throughout a match.
Where will Pokémon Unite be available? Unite will be released as a “Free-to-Start” game for both mobile devices and the Nintendo Switch. This was also the case with Pokémon Quest. There will be in-app purchases, but a release date is not yet known.
Pokémon fans thus get another way to make Pokémon battle against each other on their mobile phones or on the Switch. Those who prefer to stick with Pokémon GO can look forward to the GO Fest coming up soon.
