In Crimson Desert, moving through the open world is not as much fun as it could be. This has been proven by a bug, says MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz.
What kind of bug is it? A few days ago, I was quite surprised. Suddenly, I could glide through the air of Crimson Desert with Kliff without the stamina bar complaining – and at breakneck speed.
Like a peregrine falcon in a stoop, I raced through the air with Kliff and reached distant locations in record time. It was much better than the slow gliding that had been available to me for the most part, as the stamina bar was depleted after just a short glide.
Previously, I had enjoyed exploring the regions of Pywel. However, with the fast, stamina-independent gliding, the exploration of the continent felt infinitely better right away.
After the next log out and back in, the realization followed: I had not accidentally unlocked a new exploration bonus for gliding, and there was also no hotfix from the developers that removed the stamina costs. A simple bug skyrocketed the fun factor for me. Well, great.
Spider-Man as a role model
Since that day, I glide normally through the world again and miss the bug like a stiff breeze that gives me tailwind. I also don’t quite understand why gliding has to eat so heavily into Kliff’s stamina reserve.
The recent Spider-Man titles show nicely, for example, how valuable it is when movement through the open world feels great and is fun. It is simply such a joy to swing through the cities with Spidey or Miles Morales that I hardly ever use the available fast travel.
Gliding in Crimson Desert is already restricted by the need to plunge from a high position. Anyone who has painstakingly climbed a mountain should not be hindered from gliding on the way down by the high stamina costs.
Landing quickly at the bottom is never a problem: just deactivate the glide mode, regenerate stamina if necessary, and slow down just before landing. However, effective horizontal movement can only be achieved if you plunge down from the Abyss.
Therefore, my wish is that the developers make a feature out of the bug with one of the upcoming updates and significantly reduce or even completely eliminate the stamina costs for gliding – preferably in connection with character progression, for example through additional talents.
