On October 13, Playstation VR, Sony’s virtual reality headset, will be released. The package includes the game collection Playroom VR, which will also offer multiplayer games.
But how does a multiplayer game work when there is only one VR headset? This can be well experienced in the party game Monster Escape. In this game, four players on the TV try to escape from a monster controlled by the player with the VR headset. The four fugitives work together cooperatively and do not see where the VR player is and when he appears. On the other hand, the player with the VR headset only sees his character and does not know what the others are planning.
In a similar way, the game Cat and Mouse works. The players on the TV are the mice stealing food in a kitchen. The VR player is the cat who jumps out of her hiding spot to catch the mice.
Particularly exciting sounds like Ghost House. Here the player with the VR headset plays basically alone, but he has to rely on the other players who tell him what to shoot at. Only they see the ghosts on the TV screen.
In Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes, the VR player must defuse a bomb while following the instructions of the other players.
Teamwork or rather against each other?
However, there are more multiplayer games for Playstation VR in development. This includes Star Trek Bridge Crew, in which you take on the role of an officer on the bridge of a spaceship from Star Trek. Each player takes on a different station. One is the engineer, another operates the defense systems, and another is the captain giving commands. Teams must work together to handle various situations. The VR headset gives the feeling of actually being on the bridge of the spaceship.
EVE: Valkyrie is a space shooter in which you experience the space battles of the EVE Online universe as a fighter pilot. You steer your ship through space and encounter other players and space pirates. The VR headset makes you feel like you are actually in the cockpit of the ship.
If you are more into racing games, you can look forward to Gran Turismo Sport, where you compete in intense races against other players. The racing game Driveclub VR follows a similar line.
Star Wars, tanks, jet fighters and more
Rigs Mechanized Combat League is a multiplayer shooter where you compete in arenas against other players. You wear a combat suit that even allows you to fly through the air.
You can also fly in Star Wars Battlefront: Rogue One VR Mission. In this mission, you are the pilot of an X-Wing and have to take on imperial foes together with your squadron.
In Battlezone, you engage in hot multiplayer battles where you control a tank, and in Ace Combat 7, expect fast dogfights high above the clouds.
Therefore, Playstation VR is very well suited for multiplayer games and will be supplied with a whole range of games where you play with and against other players. You can try it out starting tomorrow, October 13, when the VR headset will be delivered.
