At a Game Developer Conference in San Francisco, Sony’s Andrew House revealed many details and information about the upcoming virtual reality headset.
When will Playstation VR be released?
The release of Sony’s VR headset is expected in October 2016.
House said:
This is a bit later than originally planned, and I want to thank everyone for their patience and ongoing support.
What will the VR headset cost?
The VR headset will cost 399 Euros.
Attention: The Playstation Camera is not included in the price. It will cost about 45 Euros extra. You will also need a functioning Playstation 4 to use the headset.
Nevertheless, Sony’s headset is significantly cheaper than the VR competitors HTC Vive or Oculus Rift.
What games will be available for Playstation VR?
An important aspect of making new hardware attractive to a wide audience is the games that will be available for it. Sony wants to be proactive in this regard.
- All PSVR owners will be able to download “The Playroom VR“, a collection of six social games. We have already reported in this article about a party game from The Playroom VR.
- Over 230 developers are currently working on content for PSVR. Approximately 50 games for PSVR are expected to be released this year.
- Furthermore, all PSVR buyers will receive a PlayStation VR demo disc with several game demos.
