Playstation VR Glasses Wearer – Is PS VR possible with glasses?

Sonys PS VR is an affordable virtual reality headset for Sony’s PlayStation consoles, but how does it work if you already wear regular glasses? Does the visual aid possibly hinder the VR fun, and should I, as a glasses wearer, just avoid the whole thing?

Sonys PS VR is a good virtual reality headset for the (comparatively) small budget. And while the headset can be worn effortlessly without visual aid, many glasses wearers wonder if the PS VR fits comfortably on their heads and – more importantly – whether the VR experience is compromised by regular glasses.

PlayStation VR – The best VR headset for glasses wearers?

For all concerned glasses wearers, we have good news: Of the three currently available VR headsets, Oculus Rift, HTC Vive, and PlayStation VR, the PS VR is definitely the best suited for wearers of visual aids! On the one hand, Sony’s headset has numerous screws and straps, allowing us to adapt the device even to the clumsiest of square heads – or even to the trendiest vintage horn-rimmed glasses!

Since the PS VR, thanks to its rubber edges around the face part, does not put unnecessary pressure on the arms of visual aids and the holders distribute the weight of the headset on the forehead and the back of the head, we as glasses wearers actually have no problems. Provided we adjust the headset long enough, but that is anyway mandatory, for example when the VR experience is blurry.

Therefore, we can confidently say: Yes, the PS VR is also worthwhile when wearing glasses and is currently the most glasses-friendly VR headset on the market! Our assessment was based, on the one hand, on the author’s experiences with his thick glasses at Gamescom 2016 and on the test report by our colleague Christian Fritz Schneider from our sister magazine GameStar/GamePro.
