With PlayStation Stars, Sony has introduced a loyalty program for PlayStation. Starting today, October 13, 2022, you can also use the program in Germany. MeinMMO presents all the important information you need to know.
What is PlayStation Stars anyway? PlayStation Stars is a loyalty program from Sony for PlayStation. You collect points and digital collectibles through various actions. You can redeem the points for various items while you can showcase the collectibles. It’s an additional incentive for players who spend a lot of time in the PlayStation ecosystem.

PlayStation Stars – How to sign up
How do I sign up? Currently, there are two ways to participate in the program. You cannot sign up directly via your PS4 or PS5, which is quite frustrating:
- 1st option: On the main page of the official PlayStation Store, there is a tab for PlayStation Stars. Here you log in with your PS account and follow the instructions on the screen.
- 2nd option: You install the PlayStation App on your phone and log in through it. Again, follow the instructions on the screen.
Which option is better? At first, we recommend the app and it has a simple reason: The rewards and ongoing campaigns from Sony can currently only be viewed through the app and not via PC. If anything changes, we will update the article.
Collecting PlayStation Stars points – Here’s how
What are these points? With the “PlayStation Stars” program, you earn points for various tasks. You can redeem these points for various rewards. It’s essentially a new digital currency on the PS4 and PS5.
How long are the points valid? Once you have earned points, they are valid for 24 months. You should redeem them in time, as they will eventually expire.
What do you earn points for? You can earn points through various actions:
- By completing specific tasks or “campaigns” from PlayStation.
- As a PS Plus subscriber, you receive 4% of your purchases back in points.
- For pre-orders in the PS Store, you also receive points. Sony will later credit these points to your account.
What do you not earn points for?
- If you buy games in the PS Store and do not have a PS Plus subscription.
- If you purchase physical games, for example, on Amazon. You do not earn points for this either.
- Kotaku reports that you also do not earn points for certain purchases retroactively.
Collectibles, free games, and credit – These are the rewards available
What rewards are available? The rewards that you can unlock with PlayStation Stars vary greatly. The main content of PlayStation Stars consists of digital collectibles that you can showcase in a display case. Additionally, you can collect points that you can redeem for various items. We will present the individual rewards separately:
Digital Collectibles
What is that? The digital collectibles are either earned as direct rewards for completing campaigns or through exchanging points. You can then showcase these collectibles on your profile. According to Sony, these items will not have any other utility and they are not NFTs. Thus, they are purely cosmetic items without gameplay utility. The showcased collectibles include:
- The PlayStation 3
- Gondolier’s Punt from Ape Escape 2
- PocketStation
- Toro and Kuro celebrating a birthday
- and Polygon Man
What does this mean for me? We assume that Sony will also revise the players’ profile pages in the future so that users can showcase their trophies and brag about them.
Free Games in the PS Store
What games can you buy? For certain actions, you collect points with PlayStation Stars. You can redeem these points for specific games. However, these games are pre-determined, so you cannot buy random games in the store. Currently, the following games are available:
- Cult of the Lamb
- Hades
- It Takes Two
- Sekiro: Shadows Die Twice
- The Quarry
These games are supposed to be available until the end of 2022. Afterwards, Sony will either offer a new selection of games or expand the existing selection.
What do the games cost? The prices vary significantly. According to the online magazine Gamerant, prices start at 6,250 points for the action game Hades and go up to 17,500 points for the game The Quarry. So you cannot just buy the best game with a handful of points.
Free credit for the PS Store
With the collected points, you can also obtain free credit for the PS Store. Instead of getting digital collectibles, you can invest your points in new games. Thanks to the credit, you are free to buy a new game, for example.
How many points do I need? The online magazine Gamerant refers to US prices. However, we assume that the prices in Germany will be similar:
- For 1,250 points, you get 5 euros credit
- For 5,000 points, you get 20 euros credit.
We cannot tell you how often you can redeem the points for credit. However, we assume that you can exchange points for credit multiple times. We will keep you updated when we know more.
