In September, PlayStation Stars, Sony’s new loyalty program, launched in Japan. However, there is already criticism because some players are being preferentially treated by customer service.
What kind of program is this? PlayStation Stars is a loyalty program for PS4 and PS5. All members have the opportunity to earn loyalty points, which they can then spend in a catalog.
If you are a PS Plus subscriber, you also earn points when you purchase games from the PS Store. The program started at the end of September in Asia, and Europe and North America are expected to follow in October.
The program is divided into four levels. Members can advance from level 1 to level 4 by collecting 128 trophies and purchasing at least four games from the PlayStation Store. Completing campaigns and playing different games are also rewarded.
Criticism of PlayStation Stars for preferential treatment
Why is there criticism? PlayStation Stars is already available in Japan, and the first players there have expressed negative opinions about the system. As reported by the online magazine VideoGamesChronicle.com, “PlayStation Stars” members who have reached level 4 are treated with increased priority in the chat queue by Sony customer service. This revelation did not sit well with some players in Japan:

- koshifurinyodo via Twitter: “They say the more you play, the more value you place on customer support, but the more you play, the less you use customer support. Something is not quite right there. They favor beginners who are new to the game.”
